Wow Wow Wow. Amazing Amazing.
While driving down to Fangys' the wind was light, then as I got to SB turn off it looked like it had come in. Arrived at S-bend and while doing some running repairs to my 107 Fangman drove past rolled down his window and gave me the "this is shit here lets go to Nairns" line. Got to rigging site and whilst chatting and rigging up the wind filled in nicely. Decided on the 87/6.7 combo and hit the water Up and going aslmost straight away wind was maybe 15-18kns. After 3 tacks managed to fall off the plane mid gybe in the wrong place and chunked the fin on rocks. Some decent damage but that fin never missed a beat all day, Very impressed with the performance. Had fun carving sweet gybes in the flat water so easy to plane out. Made my way up wind and generally cruised around for 1.5 hrs never really powered up.
In for a break, drink and call the wife then back into it. Wind had picked up and would continue to improve as the afternoon went on. was great fun speeding around with everyone else and as the wind built was getting some nice 32's and 33's. Had a rest stop with Fangman and asked him where to start Nm runs from, he gave me a sarting point and end point so made some ground upwind to point and had a crack, IT WAS AWESOME and thought I would have a chance at 29 maybe 30 but to get that was incredible. Was powered almost the whole run and by 3/4 of the way down my legs were burning in fact the whole body was screaming, but saw it through and stoked with the outcome. (That ones for you Ross)
With the water starting to fill with Crabbers and gusts started get stronger and with a 2 sec to beat went for some more bearaways. Let the outhaul off a touch and picked up some great runs through the, for me, amazingly smooth water (later to be told it was a bit choppy and not perfect conditions) Got some nice gusts coming through and the board was absolutely flying. One of those days where it all felt perfect and had no problems going for it.
In the end was shattered and so headed in for post sail hi-5's and to slowly derig for long drive home.
What an epic session at an undeniably amazing place to sail, Scored some great wind, so stoked with results I think it will be a long time till I hit those heights again or maybe the next time will be even better.
Wannabees get your skates on and head down there it's so much fun.
