Andrew Haigh (50238km): Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU RS2 with TR9 6.6m Pretty light early on, but picked up quite nicely. First ride on the RS2 With Milsy, Mick, Scott and Sue.
sboardcrazy (25098km): 15-25kts + S Buff Pt Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU- 6m OD + 79ltre falcon + 17 cm delta Unenthused driving down in rain and 15 degrees.. One of those sails where I stuffed around more than sailed.grr. Took c 20mins and got up into the flats to notice my GPS battery was dead.. ( so did more milage than recorded here) Decided it could be a good session so headed downwind back to car just as it picked up to 25-30kts..Flying straight downwind into the chop ( pity GPS wasn't working) delta spun out and the board kept going and I flew off the back and landed hard on my back..ouch..swam like crazy to catch the board with the GPs pouch threatening to fall off my arm .. As I was going to go out again it was howling and I thought rather than change down I'd try the speed board so got it out took the 17cm out of the falcon and into the speed board..Mm maybe not strong enough.. put 17 cm back in the falcon.. yes it blowing its head off , back in the speedboard ( each time I had to bash it out as it's such a tight fit.. .Then it really died.. so back in the falcon. Had the shits by now.. Back out and up into the flats and luckily it was quite good! Some good flat water ( probably risked it a bit flying through all the shallows with the delta grinding occasionally). Surprised I got the 2sec on the other tack. Had the GPS set so it only told me the last run and I'd seen 30.7 kts so happy to get home and see more. Did some nice gybes today - Bummer the best in the flats was too wide for an alpha but planed through nicely. Even got some nice ones in the chop not planing fast out but still going ok.Have to plan my alphas more as I'm usually I'm working upwind so not the best speeds even if I do a good gybe. Buzz flying through the flat stuff.. could have used more sail by the end. zzzzzzzzzzzz..think I'll be aching tomorrow after that stack. Andrew ( out early trying his 'new' excocet 90) Scott from Valentine , Milsy , Mick

Tibor (18017km): Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU What an afternoon! I was going to take only my smallest sail (5.6) but then l thought JUST IN CASE and took my new 7m. As well. When l got there (Buff point) it still looked windy close to 20 knots l thought so, l had my coffee. By the time Bruce arrived it was looking less. I started looking at my 6.7m but Bruce said It was too big. He knows better so,l put on my 7m while he rigged his 5.9 for his little board. By the time we launched it was not looking good. Good thing he went ahead as l saw himdoing his famous water start in 5knots of breeze. Of course next l was in the drink too but at least l had my uphaul which is not very cool by now. To cut my loooong story short l got going eventually and in fact l enjoyed it for what it was. Put it this way it was worth rigging for . We have obviously missed the good wind
Bruce Healey (24292km): Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU Common sense, who needs it. Wind looks good while rigging but dies. Do you rerrig bigger or go out anyway? Clearly you head out with the 80 litre board and 5.9 sail, lose the wind and swim home, wait a while and do it again. Disappointing arvo considering the forecast and 20 knot reading. Exo rs1,5.9, muf 19. Only me and tibi, everyone else too smart.
Byron Mcilveen (64411km): Marmong Point, NSW, AU TR11 6.6 , RS2 Exocet, v max 33 then 31. WOW smoking 30 knot southerly fully powered up on 6.6m going flat out with Hue in the big swell and chop. Prety happy with those numbers across the board for open water sailing not flat hear but great fun you are able to put the foot down still if you have your shit together. Multiple runs over 35. I was hoping for a 30 plus nautical as I hit 35 plus for more than 10 seconds during it from croudace bay to bolton point. unreal to put my lunch in the microwave and have a hot shower at Marmong sailing club get dressed in my work cloths and eat lunch driving to work.(maximise your sailing time) Now home and having a beer 1 am in the morning big day starting at 7 45 this morning and droping kids off at school.
rus13b (5109km): Marmong Point, NSW, AU mistral sl112 tribal 36 6.2 reflex. then f2 85lt & 5m naish wave. Byron & hugh flying along, i thought he had the 7.7 on but it was winder than i thought & was his 6.6. Tryed the 6.2 & mistral for 4 runs & it was to much for the sail, board seemed to be ok not to crazy & got 30.2. then the little stuff, gd to be back out there after 3months off & carnt wait for the 20kt NEsters to start up. slalom boards arnt the beasts people think they are, well not the mistral 1's. |
