Melville Beach, WA, AU

Another fun but gusty Melville day. Got on the water at 3pm in marginal conditions. Wind kicked in around 4 and the 7.8 and 40cm canefire became more lively than I wanted. Changed down to a CL 38cm which was probably still overfinned and over sailed in some of the gust. Had some uplifting moments but overall a hooot.

Pelican Pt, WA, AU. Got spanked. Bigtime. Rigged 7.0 at 4pm and then the wind picked up. Fully lit and hanging on fo grim death, going for the mythical 25 hour. Had it in sight with 25.2 on the dial at about 50 mins in, but a momentary lapse in concentration had me dropping the nose through the back of some chop in an inside gybe and the dream was just that again. Tried in vain to flip the sunken sail but it took a few goes to get bcak up and going. At least a minute lost .Down to 24.4 now Cry.

Up and back out, and about 2 or 3 gybes later, coming back in on port tack, copped the mother of all catapults as I ran just a little too deep and buried the nose into chop at 31 knots. Massive over the bars and hit the water back first, snapped the neck back further than I thought possible and the game was over. Tingling sensation all down my right arm. hmmmm, that can't be good! Slunked back in to the Pelican mooring to regain some mojo, before heading back out again a few minutes later for another half hour or so. Looking at the tracks, I actually had a 38.5 knot run, but I'm not sure I can count catapults Wink

Good fun sesh all up. Now to prepare for tomorrow's whiplash by having a cold beer. Cool

Melville Beach, WA, AU

Started off a light 15 knots then suddenly lit up to about 19-24 knots and so decided to change down with board and fin. Thought i would smash the 30 knot mark but after a few speed runs realized I couldnt get past 28 knots so decided to give up and re-assess.

Good to bump into Chris Porter. Thanks for the light-weight sailor advice.

Pelican Point, WA, AU

Tried out my new Gator 6.5m. Light wind  which picked up so able to see how it went on Rocket 125 and 105. Seemed good, easy to control and good to gybe.

Good to see Vincent on his 8.5m

Melville on the big old gear. Would have been better on the 7.0 and M91 but fun trying to hold on and squeeze some speed out of the old girl.

Good to meet Ken!

Snake....that just highlights the inherent dangers in our sport....I think we all need to take stock sometimes! Good that there was no serious damage.

Snake, from my last neck injury the tingling in the arm is not a good sign, if it persists go straight to your nearest emergency room and they will wizz you straight in.

Hopefully the beer did it's remidy thing

Thanks guys, no arm tingling today, just a vague soreness. Perhaps the arm was impacted in the crash, or got whipped hard onto the water/body - all details I can't recall. Either way, no major damage. Bloody thankful I had the life vest and helmet on Surprised

^+1 on what Elmo said Jake, don't take neck injury lightly. Apart from the unplanned freestylin' action, it sounds like an epic session 👍😎

Jake, glad you're ok and lucky you didn't smash your gear. A reasonable hour, considering Wink

Jake, full marks for effort, and an excellent hour considering a couple of stops.

Sounds like a good team outing with some reasonable numbers resulting.

I am on my way back to your side of the world. See y'all soon!
