Swindy (10125km): Coodanup, WA, AU Pat F race 120, 7m rrd fw, trib ws 35 then muf delta 24. pat sl 92 mxr ws 25 @46 Me Fangy, Slugger had a reasonably good afternoon for the up and down conditions, sometimes it was easier to catch a rainbow than some wind. The afternoon was spent chasing alphas as not much else was going to be very good. My watch said 23.98 so I thought I had missed the 24 but lucky for me ka72 has it a 24.299 so im stoked with that. Later on Jonski came down for a sunset frostbite session so we all promptly buggered off and left him. No offence John but it was too bloody cold to hang arround.
SluGger (13777km): Coodanup, WA, AU Futura 101/ isonic 86. TR8 6.3M MXR 28/26 Great sail with Roger, Ross and later John. Lots of adjusting of the sail and harness lines, felt heaps better .. Happy days
fangy (22667km): I should have gone blouse shopping with Fairiebob instead of turning myself into a rather large iceberg and making a reasonable dent in the estuary. However the bits prior to that, were all quite good fun, even though Mr Whippy continues to fail to provide anything other than a brightly coloured awning. Alas I have to go easy on him today because he found my sunnies and dropped them off on his way home ( thanks Slugger ) Our resident Kegmeister Kiwi seemed oblivious to any environmental or personal threat and basically charged around in the squally bits like he always does. Elmo turned up, had a fit of sanity and left. Jonski turned up, and didn't have the required fit and when I left he was still laying down some nice tracks.
I had enough fitness to try one nauti. I was pretty happy with that one effort nauti, especially on the Party Barge. Unfortunately my asthmatic old lungs decided that 10 degrees was not a good reason to wake up, so for the rest of the session it was just quick squirts back and forth to avoid Slasher and his ever present rainbow.

Oaf (7437km): Peel Inlet, WA, AU What an awsome winter session!. Thanks to my lovely wife, I hadn't even checked the forecast, the week was booked to look after the boys during the school holidays with no plans for sailing. Ru came home last night saying, forecast is for wind tomorrow, and she'd be happy to cover for me with the boys. The wind turned up as predicted, thanks honey, and Huey. Big smile on the dial. Saw a 40 peak, but couldn't bank a 2s. Had a lot of fun trying. Lunny and Boz were out, way over the other side when I arrived, Mike and Firie turned up. Was good fun and surprised to see so few out. Saw the captain connect with a big bullet on the front edge of a squall, looked amazing. Think Bob thought better of the cold. Relaxing now after a hot shower with a fire in the fireplace, bourbon in hand and the boys quietly watching cartoons. All good!

Decrepit (54652km): Fantastic Liptons Arvo. Cold and squally, but I really enjoyed the 2 good gusts I collected. Boz, and lunny were enjoying a break, with 'ken, sheltering in the hootchie from a rain squall when I arrived. Boz and Lunny talking about how wild it was earlier. But when the rain cleared and I started to rig, it was about 15kts. Paul advised rigging small so we'd be tuned for the gusts. So I rigged the 5.4 koncept, plugged the 24 @ 42 weedy into the 48, and proceeded to don my warmest wetsuit, and spray jacket. By this time wind had dripped even more, and I wondered if Paul's advice was all that good.
But not long after wind picked up. By the time I'd walked the rig to the beach it was really blowing, got to the take off mainly out of the harness lines. Then went for it, woohoo 39.6 max and a 38.1 10s. Sothought I'll get a really good 5x10, but by the time I'd got back to the take off wind had dropped and next couple of runs were only 34s. But about an hr later another squall came through, and I managed to get on to the front of it, this gave me a 35 10s. Wind dropped again, so decided to call it. So another 2s estuary PB for me and it's also the fastest the 8year old 48cm board has been. I'm wondering now if it's beacuse I'm using a bigger fin, normally with the 48 and 5.4 I'd use a 19cm fin, but because I anticipated it being choppy I used the 24cm, it certainly gave me more confidence in the not so smooth conditions, and let me get the windward rail up a bit.
Was very nice having the pinnas for company, even though they'll probably out do us. Firie made an appearance but his spring suit wasn't up to the conditions, maybe he got some nice pics. My turn to post tracks.
The long violet track is my first run, the shorter run is the last rain squall, don't think I was in as good a position on the run. Or else I just didn't go downwind enough. |
