fangy (22667km): Boombas with some other layabouts. That was epic fun day on the Party Barge. Post more later. Phone data: 2 sec; 33.531 10 sec; 32.365 Hour; 18.803 Alpha; 21.950 Nauti; 28.944
Boombas with Mad Dog Swindy, Decrepit, Rainbow Warrior, Jonski, Lunny and I finally got to meet Ken from the Pinnas. The short version of events: I rigged the Koncept 6.6, whacked a FangyFin24 on the PartyBarge and went and smashed some weed in the morning and then held on for some sphincter tight rides in the arvo. Top Ten Fangy Day and then some. Brilliant fun!
When I arrived mid morning, Decrepit told me there were some decent and thick weed-burgs to be found, and so I was really keen to see how the Fangyfin 24 coped with the challenge. I know self praise is no recommendation, but bloody hell I am happy with my fin :-)
I was as keen as only a weed addict can be, to smash any burg I could find. At high speed, traversing the weed was imperceptible, so I tried loading up the fin more and going a little slower uphill through the thickest patch. The worst I got was a slight drag in the thickest patch. I am getting more confident that the fin will outperform a Delta in every respect other than top end speed. Rock solid and reliable. I used to describe the fin as more a Landcruiser than a Ferrari, but I think now it’s more like a turbo Landcruiser.
Speaking of turbo, Boombas was flat enough early for me to hear the turbo whine of the fin at over 30 knots. That in itself was incentive to try to put the foot down harder. Unfortunately I spent a little to much brain power on listening to whistle and I realised too late that my front foot was no longer snuggled underneath the foot strap. I then set a PB for a terminal velocity enema. On the plus side the water is already brown with run off water, so no one noticed my efforts.
I spent most of the time sailing with Slugger, who had me beat 99% of the time. The only time I could get the Barge close to him was in the gusts. He needs more pies. I was knackered chasing him around, and was desperately hoping he would behave like a respectable tradie, and stop for a smoko. He didn’t. And now I have very sore everything. To make it worse, in the background Decrepit and Mad Dog, were smashing k after k and doing it at speed; very impressive to watch them both show how it this gig should be done.
The pre lunch session had the best results for me. The tide was still low enough for some really nice water and the end result was, 3 metres of PartyBarge at 33+ knots, yeeeehaaaa. The Barge ain’t no lightweight and she takes a lot of momentum muscle to get her to that speed. Those massive Boombas runs were truly energy sapping on the big girl, but it still puts a smile on the dial to get all that length clear of the water. It just seems to defy the laws of physics somehow…
Despite a lack of rainbows and unicorns it was one of the best sessions I have had this year. TTFD!!

Jonski (6717km): Boombas, Isonic 86, North Duke 6.4 and Decrepit weedy 27
Another great day on the water not sure if we will be able to top this one anytime soon. I arrived last of course but think i may of got the best of it especially the epic naughty following lunny. This was my first real session on the 86 and it really performed for me considering i was using a freestyle sail with a boom that was about 100mm to long for the sail. Looking forward to getting out a bit over the next few days . | ||||||||||||||||||
Decrepit (54652km): Main mission today was distance with Swindy, arrived at boombas early to very light wind, but the Mandurah windmeter was looking OK. So rigged the 6.2 and plugged into the 65cm board with 21cm fangy filett deltoid. Slugger and Oz arrived shortly after, left them to rig and headed out. It started quite well, but then Fangy arrived and the wind dropped out. I was half way back when the other 3 started off and wind picked up. It kept increasing and by lunch time I was ready for the 53cm board, I plugged the 20cm 40-60deg weedy into it. Lunny and Ken arrived during lunch, the Johnski appeared. Wind kept rising so I rigged the 5.8, that worked well for the first few runs, but tide and wind was coming up and chop increasing. So more outhaul and downhaul and mast base further forward helped a bit, but I should have been on the 48cm board and 5.4 Rapidly became tired and had to stop for frequent rests to gain some grip in my hands, so the hour suffered. Wind started swinging more west, so I stayed out on the square run line, to avoid an exhausting upwind slog round boombas point. Lunny Ken and Johnski stayed inside and looked tbe having lots of fun in the smoother water. Oaf, arrived while we were down rigging and gets the prize for finding my missing Gps. But big thanks to Lunny for trawling through the launch spot water. This story is a tad embarrasing so I'm not going into details!

Swindy (10125km): Point Grey, WA, AU F Race 120, FW7m, Fangy fin 24 Then Pat sl100 7m jp weed 27 @50 then pat sl92 7m then sl92 FW 6.3 Not a bad way to clock over my first 1000km since joining in the second half of march. arrived at boombas at 8.30 and started rigging a couple of sails and boards with a big day in mind. Mike followed close behind and rigged aswell. First run out was a bit slow and it took a while for the wind to fill in. When it did it was super smoothe with shallow weedy water with weed bergs on top. I was realy impressed with the way the fangy fin smashed through everything, so impressed ive now claimed it as mine till he gets the new ones forged. After about half an hour the wind turned off and I had a long slog back to shore. Just as I got back to shore the wind came back and Slugger, Fangy and Oz were heading out. While I was stuffing my face with Krispy Cream doughnuts and a litre of powerade the wind was building so swaped the sail on to the 100 and wet out for another attempt at a decent 1hr. managed to sail for an hr and 12 non stop no dropped jybes and only a couple of exits off the plane. Was pretty lonley out there as the rest of the team went in for lunch and compare blouses. Lunny was out there smashing about as usual but without Boz who i later found out was working for a change. After my hr went in for more doughnuts and powerade. Decided to get out the 92 as the wind was building but kept the 7.0 By that time Fangy and Slugger where packing up but as a nice touch they had put on their RaRa skirts and got the pompoms out and cheered me off as i left the beach. Goit my fastest 2s on this sesh but didnt last too long as the wind was getting prety strong so flew back and threw on the 6.3. This last sesh was purely about getting kms for the team ranking, all this time while the girls were on the beach looking for rainbows the captain had been quietly knocking out the kms as well to back me up. You are a true legend mike. Jonski and Ken had also turned up. Ke nwas looking seriously overpowered most of the time and Jonski was going for speed, he was going so far downwind i thought he might fall off the end of the world, but it paid off for him. Great session guys, good wind, good weed and good company. Big thanks to the cheerleaders. |
