Liptons, freezing conditions ended up with icecream head and I didn't even slurp on a slushie.  Had some fun was glassy in patches but slow, fastest water off the glass.  Way off form but only one way to get there, keep sailing. Might head to shark bay if windy weekend of 16/17 Sep if anyone interested.

Great day at Fangys with Fangy, Slugger, Auz, Swindy, Stretch and Johnski.

I had to be off the water early so arrived early and rigged big, 65cm board 6.6koncept  with 21cm filleted deltoid.

Wasn't long before this was way too much in the 5min gusts, so rigged the 5.8 on the 48 with 19cm @ 45-50, swapped rigs as the gusts came and went, until about 1330, when the wind had filled in nicely and instead of 5min gusts there was 5min lulls.

Tried for alphas, but I had forgotten that the 6.6 and 5.8 use the same kilwell mast extension. so tried the Tushy mast in the 5.8, and as I thought the larger dia down low made the bottom camber inducer harder to rotate. That's my excuse for not managing a 24. Also tried a NM but it was too short had a gybe in it.

Water is looking promising, when the sun came out for a while and tide dropped a bit there was oily slicks drifting downwind from a couple of weed burgs. As I packed up tide was dropping and water looked to be getting flater, even though wind was picking up.

Should be some good numbers today, looking forward to the rest of the posts.

"Just keep gybing, just keep gybing"  fluked one, Well happy, post more later..

I got down to my local just before lunch, Decrepit and Slugger were already out, the tide was still too full, but the weedy signs through the past week had been too good to pass wait any longer.

 I wanted to try out the modified FangyFin24, cut down to 20cm, so I got the old F2waterlog out and ran the 6.6 up the mast. The wind was still frontal to begin with and consequently was all over the shop, so I went from powered nicely to standing in the shallows, in tea coloured water, contemplating why my feet were going blue. 

 The fin was a guarded success. I didn't really try it for long enough to know how good/bad it was, mainly because I came and changed up on to the Barge - the lulls were keeping my feet that wrong shade of blue. The vertical lift from the Fangyfin cut-off version kicked in at around the low 30 knot mark and  I had one run where I managed to fly on the fin for a few seconds and not scare myself silly in the process. That’s where my max speed was recorded. The water wasn’t particularly smooth at that point so I was well happy with the result. I just have to remember not to over react when the board comes up. On the down side, once out in the moguls the fin wasn't  nearly so happy and I had to concentrate on keeping the tail down when pushing up wind.

Once back on the Barge with the 24, I settled back, enjoyed the grip and confidence on the bigger fin, flipped open a few paper umbrellas and got stuck into a cocktail of weedy goodness.  I decided to have a crack at a PB Barge u turn and I was pretty certain I nailed it. I just had a look at my tracks - all of them too wide…Doh! Oh well they felt good and out a smile on the dial, so I guess that’s a decent consolation. Same as the Capn, I am pretty happy with the nauti on the Barge, as I too had a gybe in mine.

Throughout the afternoon, more mobbers arrived,  Auz, Swindy, Stretch and Jonski. 

Huge kudos to Auz, hanging on in the gusts! Then Stretch took pity on those of us who were cold and threatened to go thermonuclear when he realised he had driven all the way up here and left just one little but very important piece of kit at home. Problem solved, as always, with judicious amounts of duct tape.  Once Stretch had joined the fray it looked as though there was a bit of a spontaneous regatta between the Funbury boys (Slugger & Stretch) and Manbra lads (Jonski and Swindy). So impressive to watch them lay down some beautiful u turns !

The wind settled in, the tide started to drop and the water really started to improve. I should have changed back to the Waterlog, but as usual I was too lazy and  also completely stuffed. But despite the cold it was brilliant to watch the  A grade boys do their thing. I think Cap’n Calm’s recruiting policy has paid off handsomely. Top Ten Flipping Freezin Fangy Day.

Got there last again but with the plesant suprise that everyone was on much smaller gear than i had expected. Good to meet Stretch for the first time and spent most of the session trying alphas although i must be doing something wrong as im not getting great speeds for them. changed fin to the Black Project Kestral 22 mid session and it was a fair improvment as i had been hitting the bottom a lot prior. I had bought this fin fin for the 110 but it went well in the 86 so will use it more often. Great to be able to get onto the big gust of the day and really happy to see the 2 sec time improving. only a broken battern today so a big improvement on my last couple of sessions.

I didnt start off too well, couldnt find my rdm mast shim. Had been looking forward to this sail and its a 1hr 15min drive back to Dardanup to find it. I was mad, real mad (with myself) . While I was emotionally incapacitated, Fangy used his head and a stubby holder shim was improvised. That worked pretty well and when Rog turned up with a proper shim, I used that.

Thank you immensely Ross and Rog for helping me out, really appreciated  

Picked up an old CA Sp47 a few months ago and this was my first chance to use it, so I took it for a spin. Most of the time I really should have been on the Sl52, but I didnt care, I was having fun with my new toy. 

Wind picked up a bit late in the arvo when there was only Jonski, Roger and I still on the water. 

John, nice to meet you and congrats on your rippa Pbs. 40 is looking pretty close now!
