A bit of fun at Fangy's, intrention was for a road trip to Australind but the captain sent through an update for Fangys just as I was at the turnoff to Mandurah. Looked good when I got there so decided to stay, Joe was parked up in his chair waiting for a sign, I think he got it huge congrats for a massive 41 +. Sammy was all smiles and Jonski was ripping it out by himself. Craige and Kenny both rocked up and it was time for a top 10 fangy day. Quite a few rocked up a bit later think we might see some fairly epic speeds coming out of Fangys.

It was also great that Fangy left 3 days passes for the Pinnas at the gate to enjoy some nice runs on the carpet. Thanks FangySealed

Wow. That was as a any speedsailing conditions I have seen.Felt like I really missed an opportunity here but stoked to be on the water in the faf far far fairy land of Fangy. Whilst the king was away the mice did play but boy was it fun. Got to try my speedboard for the first time which handled the condtions nicely.  Big thanks to the locals and team mates who genuinely wanted to help improve speed and technique.NEXT TIME...

Love your work, Craig. Sad that commitments kept me from joining you, but glad that lots of others did.

I look forward to lots more posts from today. I'll have to live vicariously again.

Super stuff Boz! That was just what we needed to pip those Budgie smugglers and move into second place. A top 4 2 sec and 5X for you too - who needs functioning metatarsals anyway? Brave (maybe not sensible but we'll overlook that for now) sailing.

Remery, Congratulations on two more PBs. I was hoping my Fangy reports might have tempted you to a drive south to get the most out of your new Delta XT. Those deltas are shallow water specialist fins They are not the best fins for speed in regular conditions. A bit more story from today please...

Those scores are making my sacrifice a bit less painful. Keep 'em coming.

Good going Tim! I am glad you were tempted south today. Close to PBs for you too - a second best 5X and a third best 2 sec. Noice!

Nice going guys, December at Mandurah delivers again. I am sorry I missed the trip south. Geez Boz 71Km with a wonky foot.

A quick sorty at the local was enough for me. I finished with a masive wipeout trying to burn and turn, all that happened was I slipped, tripped and hit the water hard.

Nice numbers Rob, it was not easy in the numpy stuff.

I was watching you, Lunny and Johnski chase each other on the Chutney Run - you guys were smashing out some fab speed as you came across the flats. Great to watch. Glad you Pinnas had a good day out Laughing

Anita, I was on the water between 12 and 3.30. It felt like two distinct sessions. The first half, the tide was higher and wind averaging 20knts, with the odd lucky gust to 30. Water was quite flat behind the weed beds in close. The second half, saw the tide drop but wind picked up. Gusting over 30knts by my clenchometer. Water state was still very good even in the gust. Some of the gust which came with the fronts were unsailable, unless you were using a small handkerchief. I’m not really familiar with this spot but from the stoke going round I would think that this was a pretty good day.

Interesting. The Mandurah tide continued to rise precipitously during the afternoon. The strong westerly wind must have blown the water out of the Coodanup corner for the tide to drop there. I wish  had known it was going to do that. I thought by the time I could have got there the tide would be high and everyone would have gone home.

The delta fins do require a different technique especially in chop - a more upright stance and care where the board is placed in the chop so the fin stays in the water. Less banking during the gybe so the fin stays in the water.

Anita the tide marker for the estuary is out on the Science Platform and doesn't always reflect what's happening on the Coodanup flats when strong winds are about. The tide prediction is a Black Art only known to wise few,  but happily, generally available for a donation in the visitors box. Laughing

Oh and just quietly Flatchat, "...the far, far fairyland .." is further down the road at Australind Foot in mouth

Anita, I was on the water at Melville 12:00-1:45. Its was sunny with good gusts coming through under clouds. I decided to eke my way into the flat water among the swans and pelicans. Good scheme except that it was a bit shallower than I expected and the 28 pointer was picking up some weed and spinning out. I decided to sail back in and give the Delta XT 18 a go. It felt pretty good as I beared off where it was real flat but as soon as there was a bit of chop it would gently spin out and was really, really difficult to clear. Gybing in chop was hard because somethimes it would spin out mid gybe.

I think I tend to ride the fin to get speed and couldn't get that to work on the little fin. The wind was picking up and I reckon if I had changed to the 28 weedy I might have gone a bit quicker, but my arms were done. I've been out nearly every day this week and my elbow tendons were painful. I felt like if I kept going I was going to snap something on me or my gear! I'm happy, learning something new every sail. I suppose a cam sail and smaller board might have helped. Maybe I should concentrate on distance with my current gear.

Well done on the PB's Rob. Not easy in sush tricky conditions so I'm sure there's more to follow.

Nice work again Craig and Boz, leading the way. Sailing like that Boz I'm not sure Fangy will let you use the disabled parking bay for much longer.

I made the road trip to Australind and arrived about 1:30. After a quick chat with the Busselton boys I took thier advice and decided to rig the 5.8M. So then I had lunch, a coffee, unpacked the car, squeezed the wet-suit on, helped a kitesurfer who was trying to avoid impersonating a christmas tree decoration, fetched my gear a few times after it was blown away whilst rigging and eventually I hit the water. By that time the wind was coming in stronger and stronger and the others were calling it quits as the tide was getting too high. My first run I wad the small fin on but being soo overpowered I couldn't rely on the fin at all. Had a 35 knott run and strangely enough scored my best NM on the first run where it felt like the fin was going sideways as often as it was going forwards. Changed up to the 32cm leading edge weedy. So much more dependable fin but I was constantly sheeting out. Miles of waste deep water that I imagine with a lower tide and a smaller sail some awesome scores could have been on the cards. Will definitely look to go back there again. Stretch ventured to the other side of the boat ramp in search of shallower water to score his 40 but being such a long way from home and sailing by myself so overpowered I was contempt sticking to the miles of water the Busso boys had recommended. Thanks heaps to the Busso boys for the advice. I suspect I would have been better off trying Coodanup but the future wife was happy to visit the Bunbury farmers market.

When packing up my sunnies blew off the dash and accross the road. I chased after them with my wetsuit around my ankles and to my relief they made it to the other side of the road without being run over. Unfortunately the wrong person watched this unfold and decided to veer off the road just to run over the sunnies. I guess they wont be getting a visit from Santa this year.

Maybe next time I go for a road trip I'll make sure I'm wearing my lucky widsurfing undies.
