Boomba's session with Capn Calm, Slugger, Frank, Mark and Lunny. The morning started a bit slowly and I spent some time admiring Sludge's skill with a drill. The end result was a small comedy of errors, one Delrin nut successfully in situ, and an FF24 restored to health.

I decided to throw in the Barge, Koncept 6.6, FF24 combo. To begin with, I was a little underdone, but there were some fun squirts to be had. Just before midday, someone threw the switch and things went from comfy to mental in the space of a run. The last half of the reach back home was spent scary overpowered with intermittent stacks/stops/launches to get the last few hundred metres back to base.

The breeze as sitting in the mid-twenties by the time I made it, with the stronger gusts building all the time. Unfortunately, Sludge was still a long way from home and provided the entertainment by completing the Reverse Walk of Shame, that is, walking his rig through mud and tempest for what seemed like an age in order to get back. Boombas never seems to fail to serve up a victim or two.Laughing

Boombas fun until we got blown off the water.

Fangy and I arrived together, followed by Slugger, Lunny and Woody.

Wind was light to very light, but I didn't want to rig too big, because of a solid forecast. So Plugged the 5.8 into the 53, with the 20cm filleted deltoid @ 55d.

A bit underpowered when I first went out, but wind picked up, and the lulls started to disappear. I was a bit nervous of the wind hitting the high 20s forecast and swinging westerly as forecast. So as soon as I started to get a bit overpowered I started the long run back and almost made it. Came into a very choppy region well overpowered, unhooked and got out of the straps, I felt safe enough sailing like this but my arms didn't like it much. So I had to stop for rests fairly often. About 200m from shore it got to the stage I could no longer hang on to the sail, so I had to walk the last bit.

I wanted to give the ublox/open logger (on my right shoulder), more of a workout, especially with alphas, to see the comparison with the GW52, (on my head).

Again very pleasing results, except I went too wide with my best gybes. So I've done a comparrison at 60m instead of 50m

alpha exit divergence GW52 and Neo M8

Neo M8 on the right GW52 on the left. yellow lines are trackpoints, green line doppler position, so in this instance the Neo is almost a meter better.

It's these slight differences in alpha separation, when the 50 meters is borderline, that different devices will allow or disqualify the alpha. So it's good to have high accuracy to ensure you don't miss out on a PB alpha.

Leschenault, WA, AU. Fanatic113/GPS7.3, then Fanatic89/GPS6.0. Wind didnt come in as strong as at Mandurah, but there was enough to have a good blast on my new board (FF89), which felt very stable bearing away over the chop. A fun day sailing with Dave, Steve and Chris from Busso Cool
