Boombas session with Cap’n Calm and Mal. I got there mid morning and already it was strong enough for the smallest sail I own, a venerable Koncept 5.8 paired with the Windtech 64. By the time I hit the water I was overcooked, so on went the downhaul, plus a chunk outhaul and a fin change to the FF22 Speed.
Broad reaching was good fun to start with, but I was just not brave enough to go deep, unlike the Cap'n, who was just smashing it out today and looking fab with 25-30 knots of breeze up his tailpipe. Kudos to the crazy old codger today! :-)…but I am sure Dorothy would probably skin him alive if she knew.
As for me, the FF22 Speed was perfect. It lacks the lift of its sibling, but is slicker than an Exxon tanker in wildlife sanctuary. No problems in the chop and totally benign if spun out.
In for a cuppa and then joined the Cap’n for an apres lunch session - which lasted one lap. The wind had gone to ‘mental’ and I frightened myself into sensibility….and decided to head for home as slow as I could, which was still scary. But despite all that, Top Ten Fangy Fin day, very happy with the fin performance in testing conditions.

1880 days ago 2 categories Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU. arrived at the tail end of the storm to a Gaggle of Knotters who were just packing up. Missed the strong wind, but still an enjoyable sail, after I sorted out a fin issue (shut up Dave!) and then changed my fin twice more. I hadnt expected a sail a sail today, so defo a happy camper FF89/SCR6.3

1879 days ago 1 categories Fun Boombas session with Mal and Fangy, well it started off fun, but ended up on the scary side.
I went with the 48cm board, 5.0koncept and 19cm@55d weedy.
Felt nice and balanced, but the tide was the lowest I've sailed there, and it was abit hard to know where the safe depth finished. So played safe by pulling up early, Came in for lunch and a cuppa, and the rain started and wind picked up. Mal decided to downrig, but fangy and I decided to push our limits. We certainly found them, scared the pants off both of us! Too fast for me in that size chop. Only had two runs before joining Mal on the beach.
I'm going to have to do a bit of investigating though, the motion said I had a 25@ didn't really feel that good, the 21.9 above is more believable,
Well GPSResults, also shows a 21 knot alpha, even at 71m seperation it's only a 23, so now idea how the motion came up with a 25. It was there both Mal and Fangy saw it.
