not what we expected! forecast was for a good hr and distance.

Wind was light when waricle and I arrived just after 11, but expecting it o pick up, I rigged for what was expected first, the 5.7 on the 48 with 40/60 20cm fin, was also going to rig the 6.2, 55 and 23@ 40/60, but after lunch there was enough wind for the smaller version, so I started on the hr. 10min in I tangled with the harness line mid gybe and had an off. so started again, wind had started to pick up and channel was getting a bit rough, after another 10mins had a massive spin out mid channel I couldn't recover from. It was obvious I was never goin to make the hour, so had a play in the liptons speed strip. my 34s steadly increased, as wind continued to lift, through the 35s, 36s and finally a couple of 37s. Running into the bear offs I was right on the edge, but as soon as I was going deep, things were managelble again. Firey then had a 38, but my next runs slowly got slower as the wind backed off again. We were busy telling the newcomers how great it was, but wind just kept dropping. I went in for a cuppa, hoping that would bring the wind back. But that didn't happen until I started to pack up. so the distance possibility went out the window as well

There was a big crowd there as I was leaving, hope the wind came back enough for them.

iSonic 90, 6.1 NP wave sail, 24/42 Pepe

Rigged small first up and then the wind dropped out, so I rerigged with a 6.1 which was enough to get me going.

Great to see so many guys on the water.

Managed to drown my GPS but the SD card still had data.

Try to figure out how to dry it out tomorrow.

Another top day out.

Fangyland with The Scud. Good fun day charging around in some small and bigger chop. Huey kept me guessing and never quite properly rigged by failing his match fitness test, peaking just before three o’clock and then falling in a heap before recovering a bit of form later.

I was well over-cooked on the Koncept 6.6 to begin with, happy for a while and finished under-done!  I am starting to get pretty comfy on the WT Cruise. Being substantially heavier than my bantam weight WTCruise brethren, I have found that moving my weight and mast foot forward to be really helpful in getting the trim correct and reducing the planing transition angle/faster planing.

The only downside of its skinny tail is that it gets drowned like the fat kid’s floaties whenever I go near it. Unless of course, there is some speed on the dial. Then it’s just park your arse on the tail like an elephant on a circus stool and ride it hard on the fin and let the length do its thing. It’s a hoot in the estuary chop, particularly running down chop lines with silky light manoeuvrability to boot. So far the board seems very much at home with 6.6 - 7.8 sail range so I am keen to find out what the practical sail range limits actually turn out to be. I suspect I can go a fair bit smaller as the board was unfazed in the gusts or on any points of sail.

Note to self, Be a little more disciplined next time and actually have a crack at some solid bear-aways in the small chop instead of just mucking about and perhaps pay some attention to the 50 metre gate for the alphas too.

I am pretty sure The Scud got a PB speed today on the Red Rooter - the Garmin gave him a 34 something and I saw him do what I reckon were some respectable alphas…hopefully the mini Motions will turn up soon and we can get him posting.

Probs best to call it a Top Ten Fangy Unauthorised Device sorta Day instead.Laughing

Melville Beach, WA, AU

I got to Melville late and felt a bit ordinary, so figured it was a good time to try the 5.5 Mach 2 for the first time and iron out any bugs. I rigged it on a SDM 400 100 percent carbon wave sail and was a bit worried about how it would set and rotate. I thought it looked pretty good. The wind was super-gusty and the sail felt very twitchy. I went for about 2cm negative downhaul, less that what's printed on the sail. Then it felt like it had some guts. The wierd thing for me is that I know what feels good, just not why it feels good. We used to rig a burlap sack with a beach umbrella stick to go wave sailing. There was great shame for anyone who came and and adjusted anything, extreme shame for anyone who changed sails. I remember going at for three hours and not setting foot on the beach.

So I continue to be amazed by how minuscule adjustments can make things feel so good.

My sesssion was cut short due to a medical emergency involving another sailor. I really, really hope that the outcome is good. As expected, the entire beach community worked together.

Well there you go, some nice wind. Got to Liptons and wind was a breeze but forecast was looking good so went for the small sail, dad's army went out and were looking the goods, I then rigged up ready but waited yacking to to some Pinnas slowing them up so they wouldn't be ready for when it was on. Tried a mile off from car park but fell off the back in the lumpy bit, gave up on that idea. I was trying for speed but too scared to go too shallow untill Mike said he had a 37, shiiiiit, time for pumpking head and go shallow, got my best speed before wind started to drop. Got yacking again as wind was dropping so had to dredge and walk back so I called it.

Great to meet up with guys who I haven't seen for a year, I hope the wind did pick back up to make it worthwhile for guys who made the effort to come down.

CA SL87, 27 Tribal Weedspeed, 5.8 Koncept and boardies, happy days.

Peel Inlet, WA, AU CA66 & 62 & mistral 95 speed fangy 21s koncept 62 & KAR5.5 As you can see I spent most of the day changing sails and boards. Started out on 6.2 and ca62 and as the wind increased changed down to 5.5 I had a couple of runs and Mike and Bob were getting 37s and 38s so I went back in and changed to the mistral speed. I had one run and the wind died so I came in for lunch and a sulk. I finally decided to get the ca66 out and have a couple of cruisey runs. Eventuality the wind kicked in again so back I went and got the speed board out again. Very tired from all that chopping and changing but sadly missed the best of the wind. Still, a top five result so a top day after all

Tabou Manta 71, NP RSR E8 7.0m, Tribal delta 22cm

Last on the water, wind nowhere near as strong as Kwinana where it was pushing me sideways when walking.

Rigged large sail whic ended beiung the right choice, learnt a bit more about setting up the board today, got it flying nicely of the fin.

One good gust got the peak speed rest of the session stuck in the 34's.

Be nice if people looked over their shoulders before taking of as a number of runs (3 out of 3 times) were thwarted when coming from Point Grey only to have to sit behind someone taking of in front of you blocking my run, . the surfing equivelant of getting snaked.

Still nice to get out and catch up with th Perth riff raff
