Teralba, NSW,AU

JPHF 135 GTR+ foil 800 SS7.0

All directions west 2-25kts - Challenging session at Teralba with a heap of guys in a crazy shifty westerly of the worst type. Had a couple of nasty offs,  both self inflicted and just bad luck. Hit a metal "whisper pole" pole floating on the surface which stopped me in record time. Great to see all the club guys. Thanks to Muz, Byron, Ian and Baz for taking care of the boat stuff.

Weed bergs are back. pity they brought their snot weed mates. Dodgy westerly till it cranked in quite strongly.

Off to Ayers Rock tomorrow. Apparently any probs with the locals I just say I'm a mate of Baz.

CASL93. 6.7m, 19 fin.

quite a few out today enjoying a saturday sail. we put the boat in and set some marks but wind was no good to do anything with it.

Coal point everything from 5-28kts plus NW– WNW-W 90-1.2m messy cross chop

7.5m Turbo– Windtech64 ( 112ltres) - 35cm tectonics weed demon

 Then 28WT weedy

 Then 7m Turbo– WT57( 90ltre) - 28cm WT weedy

Then 5m gator– WT57—24cm stealth weedy

I didn’t think Budgy was going to happen and after the few fun blats off Coal yesterday I hoped for more today.

I risked rigging the big kit and went out. The launch area gets the biggest messiest chop plus the strongest gusts and the board was miles too big for the conditions.. One run which I  survived by luffing the sail and not putting the power down but it wasn’t very enjoyable.

I put a smaller fin on , put full tailflex on plus moved the mastfoot forward and went back out. This was better as at least I didn’t have to worry about the big fin in the strong stuff but it was still scarily big in the chop.

I came in and decided to rig the 7m– 57—28 combo.

Back out and the board was a better fit but the strong stuff was getting 20kts plus and it was survival in the wind and chop..I came in for lunch and was amused watching the yacht race . The wind kicked in 25-28kts plus and some were planing at 12-15kts with their spinnakers up. There was a bit of chaos as the strong stuff hit.

I planned to rig the 4.5m and 85ltre waveboard so I put away and the 7m and big kit. Of course it then died to a nice 10-13kts which would have been lovely on the big kit.. Grr Undecided

I wasn’t tempted to get it though as I didn’t trust it not to kick in 25kts plus..

Put the waveboard away and decided to see if the W from down south got here..It came in about 3ish . It was still patchy and I didn’t trust it to not die out so I rigged the 5m for the 90 with full tail flex, smaller fin and mastfoot forward.

Finally a combo that was still scarily fast but didn’t feel like it wanted to kill me..I only did 2 runs as I was tired and didn’t even try to gybe powered  in the mess. Just stopped and turned the board around. It was nice to be able to go for it at times. The chop had got more regular with the wind change so I could dodge the big peaks easier..

I’m happy with the 2 sec in the conditions. I haven’t broken 26kts on the lake since I did my ribs in back in January. I’m slowly getting my confidence back to go for it in the chop but the messy conditions make it hard to get good speeds.

Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU, Westerly 10-30.

FF79, 6.2, MUF 18cm

Waited around for the wind to arrive. It finally did. typical westerly on and off. There was 5-10 minutes of 30+ which was all a bit too much for me.

Quite a few out, but only 3 speed nutters.

Some great speeds for the lake there guys. I think Teralba would still have been better than Marmong today and at least it would have been as flat as you can get for a W on the lake.
