827 days ago Coodanup, WA, AU. Got a late start due to other commitments and arrived to find Boz and Richo hard at work. Well, not really, dial was reading 5knots and there was a lot of standing around so opted for the big gear. Cruised around nicely and considered joining them in the pond when some nice lightning approached so chose not to. Then the squall to end all squalls hit and I was stuck 400m out on the big gear...seemed to last forever so opted to walk back and maybe rig smaller. Of course once back to land wind dropped right off again. This time chose to sail into the pond but while I was sailing up the channel they were walking out but only realised once 1/2 way across pond. Wind dropped right off to almost nothing so choose to head home but at 1knot it was tedious so opted to walk out the channel as faster. Found a floating car tyre (think it has been floating around a while) and hauled it out as would ruin someones day. Another big dark front came and went out again but was more rain than wind. iSonic 117, SvT 8.6, FF28

Headed to coods to meet up with Boz with fingers crossed for some WSW action along the weed bank. Arrived to see Boz rigged up and about to go for a float and into the Pond. I hit the water with enough wind to sail into the pond. As per usual the wind died leaving Boz and i to walk to the weed bank. A light WSW gave us a couple 30knt runs. In the distance we could see black clouds and as it approached we headed to the top of the run waiting for some action. With lighting and thunder we were both thinking this could get interesting. Then it hit, all 30 plus knts of it. . As i got up onto the board the wind direction felt different and it had swung to NW leaving little time to bear off before running into the bank and with my back foot trying to get into the foot strap that had turned inside out i new i was in trouble. Over i went. I looked behind to see Boz not far from me having the same issue and as he passed me over he went. We both looked at each other and realized that we had to sail 100 mtrs away from the bank to get a shot at it. I went 50 mtrs stopped turnded around and took off with more room to bear off but the wind had lost some strenght. Boz went the full 100 mtrs turned and took off but it was all over, the wind had done us both in. With that it was all over and we walked out thinking what could have been. When then noticed Jim heading into the pond through the channel on the 8.6 sail. He didnt miss much and he walked out soon after. Just another winter day.

Optimistic that a early morning sail was on the cards but typical winter on off wind was the outcome. Didn’t matter what was rigged today as everything from a 8.6 to a 5.7 was in play with Jim on the 8.6, Richo 7, and my 5.7. The squall was interesting as we were sailing a WSW and set up for the run when the wind booted but Huey decided to swing the wind to NW which meant we were too close to the bank for the run in. Got up okay on the board but back foot didn’t make the strap and slipped off the board so run aborted, took off again to the start this time in the right position but Huey being Evil shut the wind down. So it all boiled down to just one run in the thunder storm the rest was just a float.
