The Shroom (594km):
89 days ago Epic session out at the Chook Pond!
Started out this morning at my local coffee shop. As I sipped a hot flat white and it was that moment I knew I was going to get a pb. Shortly after that moment of realisation I left the coffee shop and drove down to Coodanup to check out what was going on. Rob and I decided to go to the pond and we packed the car. After half an hour we were at coodanup rigging up. When my KA Koncept 4.4 was rigged I headed out for a quick run to test the sail size. I also moved the foot straps back to make them outboard straps, they worked a charm.
I ended up trudging my gear through the channel and 20 minutes later I was in the pond sending it. As soon as I stepped on my board the wind booted in raining heavily I elegantly dismounted with a small splash! It was that moment that I witnessed a spectacular crash, Rob sent it over the board and the spray was magnificent. After the water died down where the crash was I hopped back on my board for some more runs. After tacking up the pond a few times I saw Rob putting his gear up on the salt marsh. I started to sail down to check out what had happened, turns out he bruised himself, tore a sail, and broke a batern. Leaving him to his own devices I wished him well and sailed away. It was just my self and the Chook pond (and the other people out there). For a good 45 minutes I sent it, stuffed up a few gybes but there was one that was probaly the most memorable of all. I saw the mast go up into the air and I wondered why it started getting bigger and bigger, then it hit me...!
For the next half an hour or so I showed everyone how to crash. I must of been an absolute insparation out there because people were copying me in no time! I really felt like the star of the show.
Alas my arm pump and burn was too much so I walked in. On the way in I found every hole in the channel, smashed every part of my shin on every part of my gear, and got a facefull of salt marsh multiple times. Tired and hungry I had a chat with a few people and went home for something to eat. 🍄
