Coal Point, NSW, AU

Stingray 115, Flow 1000 and Naish 5.4

Southerly 20-30kts

I felt like I picked the worst time to go out. It was strong and incredibly gusty, just coudn't deal with it.

Still slightly injured, so gave up and headed home whilst still in one piece.

Mungo Brush, NSW, AU. Starboard Carve 99, 6.5, 33 finworks. Not too bad for a choppy session. I don't use this board much, it felt decent today. I think me a mobdog had lucky timing, when we arrived it was hideous, waves, SW. Then it swung and backed off a little, making water state much better while we had a go, then the wind honled again making it rougher once again once we were done.

Marmong Point, NSW, AU. What a ride! Set out just as the southerly busted through. Got about 4 minutes on relatively not tooo choppy water before everything changes in what seemed like an instant. Must’ve been over 30 knots, waaaaayyy too much for a 6.0 and 133 litre Futura! I lasted 2 runs out and back before commonsense prevailed. Great fun though!

Blown away with 5.8.   30 of the most terrifying knots ever not to kill me.  Not so smooth.

 18-20kts S Valentine, NSW, AU

A weird day. I arrived at 1ish to find 37 degrees with a 20-30kt consistent W . I could have rigged the wavegear but wanted to sail the S when it arrived. I don't think I've seen such a consistent W. It lasted c 1.30hrs and none of the graphs were showing it.

The S finally came through at 3.30. it was about 20 -25kts so I rigged for that but by the time I got out I was underdone.

 1 run on the 5m - WT57 ( 90ltres) and only got going once for 24.5kts.

Rerigged the 5.7m and was powered ok. Not maxed out,  but it was very lumpy and big in the middle, so I wouldn't want to have gone any faster.

I swapped the boards as needed. The 112ltre was a bit over the top in the strong stuff due to the messy chop although there were some flatter areas as well.

I didn't last long and after flipping, and then  too much rear foot pressure swung me into the wind so badly  the sail backwinded Undecided I figured I'd quit.

Steve , Pete who only had a few runs as they were underrigged, Luke and I all on fins. Lots of wingers . Someone on a windfoil in the W ( Glen?).

The best wind was at 5.30pm. I got home 7.45pm. That's the latest I've sailed but I'm glad I did as it would have been a wasted day going earlier.

Nerong NSW (Myall Lakes)

FFF200, Sailworks 6.0, Axis 1099

Has to be the worst place to sail in a S-SW breeze. Had everything from huge uncontrollable gusts to nothing at all, 45 degree wind shifts, jet skis, kayakers and fishermen with no understanding about what foils can do. For some reason they all want to go in front of you.

Not my pick of locations but while I'm here I like to make the most of it, with all it's challenges.

Slow 1 hour shows the amount of turns and lulls. With a maximum flight area of 300m it was all about getting the most out of a gust before you hit the trees. (Fortunately deep to the edges).

Certainly keeps you on your toes. No time to relax. Common sense should have told me to give up earlier but trying to handle the conditions seems to override everything sensible.

Hoping to get out tomorrow before our visitors arrive. A better forecast and Boxing Day looking better again.

Your keen Kev! Nerong is better for kayaking than sailing.

Wow Kev, cool adventure session. Nice work at budgy speedsters. Andrew, not often you get wooped!? Sue, weird day, I agree. My brother and I were looking at waves break at mungo. We drive around to the punt to watch a house boat struggling to get off the shore, he made it just. We resigned to go home. But decided to look one more time on the way and it was a totally different world. The shift happened so quick and the water state changed so much. Graphs along the coast doing wacky stuff.
