Windxtasy (14010km): Oh cruel fate! A lovely sunny afternoon with steadily building wind, A DAY OFF, but no car. Took the car in for servicing at 8AM, told them I'd like it as early as possible, but it took them ALL DAY. So sad. I hope the rest of you have better luck.
JJ (25827km): Safety Bay, WA, AU Super fun day at SB - on the water at noon in a 15 to 18 knot wind - had a few drags with Lao over to Pengos and a NM on the way back. Wind really kicked in (25 gusting 30) as Greg, Norts and Slowy arrived - later also Tomski, Rod and Mitch. Couldn't match the speedsters so thought I'd better grind out some Km's to backup Lao's distance Awesome speeds to come from Greg, Norts, Lao and Slowy Isonic 86, GPS 6.6, Elmo weedy 30 - Mistral 47, GPS 5.5, Vector DWS 21
Obelix (3335km): Pelican Point. Futura 101, 7m, FO 32 weed. Ricey was there when I arrived, otherwise havent' spotted anyone else. Well done on the PB JJ. My top speed felt like flying. Can't even imagine 10 knots more. Amazing.
Lezz (4333km): Safety Bay, WA, AU I used old F2 Axxis board. Would have sailed longer but my 6m broke.
Pointman (25797km): Safety Bay, WA, AU Wooohooo!! Great sesh today. Started out on the Mistral 95 + 6.6 TR7 + 27 VSW. After an hour on this set-up I seemed to be hitting a wall around 38K. Also had a few nervous moments with the fin letting go, so I wasn't really comfortable loading it up down the run. Still need to sort a good fin for this set-up, I think the 27 VSW is a bit soft for a heavyweight like me Switched boards to my old faithful SP47 + 23 KA assy...instant gratification with the first run on this combo yielding a 40 on the screeen and a 39.22K 10 sec. It got better...run of the day got me my peak speed and a 41.11 10 sec. Fully lit, power coming on all through the bearaway, and she was dancing on the tail, fully levitating on the fin. A big 'yeeeehaaa!!' down the run and a big claim at the end when I pulled up and saw the numbers....freakin speedsailing nirvana right at that moment I knew the 40 5X was on the cards, so I kept charging looking for 40K runs. Found another 39 and 2 more 40+ 10secs, but I didn't think I'd managed it, so I kept going as the breeze backed off (last three runs were only 37K 10 sec). Came in and packed up. Got home and ran the numbers....just snuck the 40 average in there...very happy 40 5x has been my goal for a while now, and it was great to get it in WA waters. Super fun sesh, and a great crew to sail with today, congrats to all the chargers who PBed in near perfect Beaver goodness.
Ricey (11089km): Pelican Point, WA, AU A quick sail to test my bruised leg - got knocked off my bike last week! Sore but not bad considering I rigged too big. Cut the session short to protect healing process. RRD 80 Xfire with 5.8m KA Koncept and 28 fin.
lao shi (41082km): Got on the water at about 11.30am as I had to be back in Perth at 3.30pm. Forecast showed the wind coming in but it was maybe gusting 18. Did some alphas but only hitting around 25 on entry/ exit so sailed up to Pengos for a couple of mile runs. Joined by JJ and had some fun drags to Pengos and back. Mile had a nice finish down the bar. Had one run powered up for a 37 and 36 10sec and decided it was time for a quick session on Lurch before having to leave. My wonderful wife extended my leave pass and it was game on! First few runs were 37's with good averages. Bar was as flat as it gets and wind was building. Started tweaking and pushed in to the 38s and a 5x PB started to look possible. Went in, had some sustenance and put some weight on got a 38.9 and a 38.3 10sec. Then a 39.7 / 38.9 . Real close battle with Recycle and 40 was the challenge. He had a 39.7+ /39. Went back out moved the mast base further back and had a ripper run which felt great and saw a 39.98 on the dial. DOH! Next run cracked the 40 with a 40.3 followed by a 40.5 with an awesome 40.08 10sec which smashed my old 38.8 PB! Then caught a ripper gust mid way down the bar for the best speed of the day 41.54 / 40.3. Suddenly the magic 40 5x was on the horizon but having already sailed 100+ Km I was starting to flag. Put more weight in for a 40.68 but was not getting the 40 10sec. Called it quits for a dash back home to pick up my lovely wife from work and take her out for a celebratory pizza. Loft Blade 6.3 (which took on a whole new level of stability with my new 2nd hand Maui Sails boom), is90/choco 27 weed (mile/ alpha/ Hr) then Lurch / KA23. Well done to Pointy on the 40 ave and top Pinnaroo on the day. Good to meet Lezz (shame about the sail) and great job on your PBs. Thanks to JJ for the early company well done on the PB average and hope the early session did not stop you from pushing higher speed later. Safety Bay at its best and may be the last before the channel is dredged! |
