Really fun sesh at Safety Bay today.
Got down there early (6.30) to be greeted by lots of rain, and solid, but not nuking breeze (23-28 on the anemometer).
Soon after Rod & Mitch turned up, then JJ.
Hit the water around 7.30 on the SP47 + 6.6TR7 + 23 KA assy combo, but the breeze booted in to 30K+ and I was maxed on this gear. Got my second fastest peak speed and my fastest 10-sec (37.95), but I was scary overpowered and soon retreated to rig the 5.8 Koncept.
Sailed for 40 minutes on the SP47 + 21 Slingshot + 5.8, but the breeze was peaking, solid 30, gusting to 35K and it was pretty outta control stuff. The bar became unsailable, and I went for some port tack runs into the pond instead. Got my peak speed and 2/5 10 sec runs on port tack. Hairy approach through foot high rolling chop, and then an arse-dragging round-up at the end in buggerall water...are we having fun yet?
Came in for a break to wait for it to settle down a bit. B&E roll and a coffee with the lads and back into it around 10. Breeze had backed off substantially, and the bar flattened off nicely and I had some nice runs down the bar. Heaps of south in the breeze, so the run was pretty square, but it made it easy to get back to the top of the run.
SP47 became too small, so grabbed the 90 XFire + 27 VSW for some alphas. Angle was the best I've sailed at Safety Bay for alphas, smooth as blasting up and down the bar. Just a shame the breeze backed off again and I was underpowered on the 5.8.
Back to shore and another kit change...rigged the 7.0TR5 and swapped fins for the JP 31 weedy for the fourth and final set-up for the day.
7.0 was OK for a bit, then it dropped to around 18-22K and I was only just planing. Tide dropped again and I was depth-checking the run with the 31 weedy, so after a few more underpowered alpha attempts I called it a day.
Got a call I've been waiting for while I was down there...I'm gainfully employed again after sitting on the sidelines the last 3.5 months
Starting tomorrow .
Can't think of a better way to have spent my last day of freedom!
Fun sailing with JJ and the Coastal Speed lads, cheers for the company guys.
