Well got my wish, more wind and a bit more water, was able to use the 18cm mega weedy and fly over the top of the rope weed, with only the faintest of tugs once in a while. That's my smooth addiction satisfied for a while.

When I arrived Alan was out flying around and Fangy was rigging his 7.5. Anita and JJ then joined us to share the fun., Jamie and ? to watch.

Although it didn't really look windy enough, I put up the 5.8, on the 53cm board, started off with Keefs 17 delta, but I haven't fitted it to this board properly and it was getting weedy under the overhang. So I gave the 18cm old slalom elliptical reboxed at 55deg a go. Didn't get any weedy under it, and went up wind better, but I think it spun out just as much. Felt great once in the weedy smooth stuff though.

Tried a few alphas, but the fin wasn't quite so good across the wind.

Here's my tracks, curtesy GPS visulizer

18 oct ober tracks overall

And here is the interesting bit zoomed in.

speed tracks zoomed in

The purple area marks where the weed was on the surface and is about 600m long and 150m wide, just right for a decent 10s, but didn't quite make the best of it for a good 500m

EDIT, just recalculated with real speed, it's given me another 0.5 knots for the alpha, a completely different one

Fangy's wth Decrepit, JJ,AC1, Windxstasy and Wazza the spectator. I can't quite figure out today. It was brilliant fun, great company and super water conditions. But nothing happened to put a twist on the day. It was just plain full of weedy goodness.

Weird stuff that happened included Wazza having a hitherto unheard of attack of commonsense and resisted all temptation and rested his injured corpse. JJ Von Hidenburg didn't hit anything or crash and burn at all that I saw. The wind blew even though Captain Calm was in attendance for hours. I mean what are the chances?

This morning I could not quite decide where to drop into the drink, but I spotted AC1 lurking up and down the foreshore. I decided he needed a weedy deal to see him right. I quietly slipped him some highly 'modified' Delta goodies.( 24 HC Delta that I had smacked down to 19cm over on the reef at Boombas) I was stoked to see him get such a good session with it.

Captain Calm showed up soon after and proceeded to inspire the troops with a series of cunning decisions. This culminated with him deciding not to wear a GPS. Luckily he recovered from this almost immediately. My own grey stuff also decided to ignore the carefully laid out strategic directives from the Captain such was the lure of the smooth.

I had a couple of cracks at a nauti, but in the end I really wanted to see if all those sessions on the QEII over winter practicing gybing might have paid off. So I am very happy camper to see the F2waterlog managed to get me a PB alpha. On top of that I had one perfect skid gybe.( I am not sure what the proper name for these are, but it's when the little Delta is clear of the water and you skid the board around on the rail only)

The kit for the day included a riveted in Delta 18 along with a Koncept7.5. I sailed until my fingers went completely numb with the cold, I was only in boardies after all. A great day, great company under grey skies.

Possibly even qualifies as a top ten Fangy day :-)

Maybe I should try realspeed - I might get that 17 knot alpha I was trying for!

Anita, there is the odd occasion realspeed gives better alphas than ka72, but I don't think it happens very often.

I mainly use an old version of gpsar, that doesn't "see" short alphas, mine above was just over 400m, but quicker than the 500m one that gpsar came up with.

Ka72, in this case agreed with real speed.

Certainly if you want to improve your alphas real speed is a great help analysing them and seeing how you can improve.

As in my case above, at 400m I have a seperation of 50m but at 500m the speration has gone out to 55m, if I'd stayed at 50m it would have been a better alpha.

Great stuff Ross, how close are our numbers?

you're getting very close now Fangy,

Fatmatt 212 on 1373

fangman 215 on 1398

only 25 points behind, that shouldn't take too long.

Mike, I knew I had a good day and numbers within a Bee's thingy of yours proves it! Even so that is insanely close, is there an award for synchronised windsurfing?

Synchronised speed sailing!

You guys are real close to the same speeds.

I thought Dan and I had the market cornered in the 'same speeds' stakes.

I like the "faintest tugs from the weed" comment......the tugs we get are from eels getting in the way Smile

Glad we were to there to inspire you to greatness Ross!

You never even hinted that you might have some PB's... and waited so long to post them. Such self control!

Its a good day when you can mirror Decrepit's scores.

I know what you mean about ignoring directives from the captain. I was having so much  fun I ignored my own!

Yes well I thought we could get a good Hour by doing a down winder to Novara, but then seeing how well the short fins didn't handle the chop, and how much fun the smooth was, I likewise gave in to temptation.

Hards, I reckon I will be able to say I am a speed sailor when I have a 25 alpha and a 40 2 sec. So a bit of work to do yet!! ( but it's bloody good fun trying😃😃😃)

Hey Fangy, its great having a target to aim for, its a great excuse to windsurf and an extra motivating factor.  Saw a Resident Ortho on Fri (I'm going down the pecking order, Consultant did surgery, first 2 clinic visits were with a Registrar, now I'm down to a Resident), and he was very cautious saying that I must be very careful to avoid re-breaking it as it will be a much more complex procedure if its re-broken, and recommended against any risk taking behaviour that would re-break the leg.  So thats freaked me out a bit, all my Top 5's and PB's may be frozen in time forever for me nowCry, so I'm thinking of giving RPH a miss and seek out a private consultant Ortho for a second opinion.

Hards, the obvious point here is that you have never broken bones windsurfing. So stay safe, go windsurfing and avoid hazardous stuff like walking. Probably to be extra safe you could steer clear of domestic duties as well.

Hi Keef,

At the moment it's in a vice with some bog on the bottom front edge of the base and the top rear edge. I hope this will force the nose down, and get rid of the gap.
