SP - Life is Good - 30-40 knts - Day2

Same senario as yesterday pretty much, 5.30 wake up, 7.30 on the water!!

After yesterday sailing, I changed couple things, put a bigger fin on and use 5ks Lead. Struggled to launch the first run but still done 40.5 on it, then 2nd run 42.. and then the magic number appeared on the screen at the 3rd run.. 44.02 Cool. with a 42.6 10 sec run Tongue out

Everything went sweet, but that was it for me, my goal was achieved and did not care about the rest of it. I hurt myself yesterday and really cool me down, did want this to happen today!! Yes I cld have done a pb on 5x10 etc.. but was happy to leave it there.

Funny story behind this 44 is when I left WA i write on my left hand a 44 on it and kept it there all long (lot of people asked me what this was and I told them about it), it was my vision, what I wanted.. when LG forecast died off I though whats the go? usually I get what ask for!! Then Sandy opened and it happen.. So happy to get it, I knew I could do it, just needed the importunity Tongue out

Sorry Mr CAM I could not slow down, I know what you are thinking "Bastardo" ah ah ah Smile

Glynn, I got there before you and you should have follow up Wink

MOBay guys was here again and was doing really well, Pbs on their side too with Vando packing a 47.68 peak speeeeed Surprised

Thanks again to Daffy and Kato for taking me onboard and in some ways helping me to ge there, thanks to Hamma too for the advises Wink

Firstly congrats SAMMY!!!!!! 44 on the dial, very nice.

Fangy emailed that Pepe had 6.3 and 7.1 KA race sails for sale. Pepe offered me a trial run on them, I wasn't sure how I'd go water starting them in the deep.

Wind was about 10 to 14knts so I tried the 7.1 on the 53 with 26cm 45d weedy, as tide was reasonably up at fangys and weed almost gone. sail felt very nice, nicely balanced with this combo, and very pleasant to sail, gybes as easy as the smaller sails.

Water starting it does seem possible, although I didn't get much deeper than waist. So Pepe, looks like you're on.

Fangy's with Scott NoMates then Hardly then Decrepit and finally Birdman as the wind  faded.

Firstly- Awesome work Sammy - living the dream big time ! :-)

I threw the F2 waterlog and 7.5 koncept with Delta 21 taped in place in the drink with about 12-14 knots of breeze. Nothing special  as a result. But hopefully I got some decent video of Hardonfilm. I certainly got some tips from the alpha king that I spent most of the afternoon finessing. Thanks Joe.
Decrepit showed up with his 'new' rags rigged up and certainly looked dialed- in and comfy in the conditions. And then as the breeze seemed to be packing up Birdman fronted and knocked out a few runs.
Interestingly après  sail analysis of the numbers of the sailors down on the estuary today seems to indicate that the eastern side was quicker than the western side which would  run contrary to the conventional wisdom.
Anyway it was ust one of those days were it was just a pleasant cruise around and enjoy the water and the world around you. I left with a smile so that makes it a Top Ten Fangy Day :-)

Mike and Joe - watch this in HD otherwise you cant see them - too far away for this lens :- (

Grumpynuts up close -its not t as bad as it sounds Embarassed

A couple of vids of Joe to followCool

Thank you all for your kind words Wink

Interestingly all those speed spots I sailed are easy and hard at the same time, the hardest I think now is when you are in that bracket of 30-40+ knts wind (or more, but I wldnt know) because you have less room for errors and you know its not going to be easy, if you crash its going to hurt.

LG is easier because the shallow water everywhere, mud pads on the edges which make it safer if you fall, water is flatter even if its choppy. The long walk in the mud and weeds in the fin is the challenge, I found

Sandy has became really brutal and challenging since last time I was here 4 years ago, cannot seat back and wait, you have to stay really focus, no room for errors. The start run is really terrible and kills you already at the beggining of the session, the rest is almost easy (NOT)

Sharkbay FP_NP has all the ingredients I think get there, 30+ stable breeze at time, shallow flat water, sand bars, I will compare it to SP because its not a easy one, very tides and wind direction dependant, hard cutting ground on exit. I never had the balls to sail it on a 30+, with the SP experience now, I will most probably give it a crack next summer, I hope this time to get to sail it with someone as this is not a place you want to get stucked on your own. I hope to share some great sessions there with some mates Wink

With the bit of travelling around I did, I meet some fantastic talented people, lot of them have what it takes to get above the 40 but never had the chance to do it Wink. To those people I will say, make your demand and keep it in view and it will happen for you. I am only an average sailor and what I can do you can do it too Wink. Happy sailing Cool

It was great to hang out with you for a couple of days and share exploration stories! For us it as much about the journey as the goal.  And it was really nice to see you reach this goal! Cool

Woops, forgot the Fangy effect, he's got the honour of backing Sammy up.

And Sammy, you may not quite have made the 44kt 2sec, but you've smashed the 80km/hr 2s.

 43.95knots = 81.3954km/hr
