Went for hr at first before wind and chop picked up, with the 5.8 on the 53 with the 21cm 50deg deltoid, might have been better with a 24 45d weedy.
After lunch changed to the 5.4 on the 48 with 19.5 weedy and went for alphas, just a tad too choppy to do my normal tight gybes, had to open them up a bit to avoid bouncing out. So reasonably happy with the 23 but was hopping for a 24.
I'd intended to then change down to the 43cm board and go for some speed runs, but I had a couple of crashes mid gybe, the last of which tore the webbing of the camel pack. Which of course was over my shoulder, so the full breaking strain was across the side of my lower neck. This didn't feel real good, and when I started sailing again everything seemed to be going wrong, so I called it quits. Of course that's when the wind seemed to be getting really interesting. I think we'll see some nice numbers from the guys out there wizzing around.
Stroppo of course was flying but salty and JJ were also going very well.
Fangys going to claim it as a top 10 day, and there were lots of people with big grins, but for me it was a bit too choppy to rate that high. I'm putting around 12 to 15.

Great day at Fangy's, was completely stuffed when the wind really came in but happy the results! Some serious speeds recorded today I'm guessing with a star studded field of contenders.

Finally got my self excited enough to get of the lounge around 3pm and head out for a sail, went down to Avalon where the swell was building so went to give it a tickle. Some sage advice from another sailor getting of the water changed my mind into rigging the 5.0 rather than the 5.8m.
Once out in the water I quickly discovered that yes you van be overpowered and underpowered on a 5.0 at the same time. Bit of an interesting start to the session as although I bought the sail about 5 years ago, I had only ever used it the once in the estuary and never in the ocean so my rigging left a bit to be desired.
Discovered also that Huey had the day off today and his substitute was Heston (the chef) who made it his mission to find out how many creative ways he could serve up my arse out there.
I did lots of (unintentional) jumps but only 2 landings, lost count of the times I got blown over, including one very stylish laydown bottom turn/faceplant.
Only casualty (besides my fairly dented ego) a nice fin slice to the undersie of a toe and a nice crease in the nose of my board from a mast chop.
Overall not a bad arvy
Still can't get my head around being overpowered with a 5.0m

Light shitty southerly. i have been off the water sue to a very sore right ankle/achillies. Tried it out today. Its catus. Might be time to go see a doc as it's not getting better and it's now blown up and looks like a half enflated ballon. The act of sailing and pointing my toe to power up the fin is what's causing me greif.
After today's very light 30minute sail i can hardley walk. Its been fine surfing the last few weeks. Oh well glad its the off season for sailing now

Port Kenny SA, wanted to sail that place 2 years ago, well its done , very enjoyable sail in Venus Bay concervation park..
Not a speed spot, but good slalom place if you need a strecher on the way pass
The bay is not deeper that 3m I recon, little seaweed on the shore but did not see any on water.
Breeze was very stable, water warm.. limestone on the shore, in water, so I checked at low tide and spot myself a passage between them, when cameback was all covered.
On the top was the strongest, just in that lower gap we can see on the photo, wind was accelereting, but the choppiest too.
I park my van in the bush ah ah ah, be doing some explore tomorrow..

EDIT, Mike here, resized your pics Sam, so we can read the rest of the page. Nebs has fixed this problem now, caused by the change to a new server

fangy (22687km):
3545 days ago 2 categories Fangy’s with just about everyone. I think we set a record for attendance to rival the MCG.
I wandered on down in the chariot late morning to scope things out and send off the multitude of texts to those waiting for a report. When I got down to John St the place was already infested with Nannas and Pinnaroos. I got out the collection box for Fangy sailing fees and after saying good morning to that mob of bludgers I walked away with enough coin for a bad magicians trick. That is to say, none. Feeling mightly cheesed, I did not hesitate when the Captain’s Call came through. Wambas it is.
I dropped back to the Fangy Estate for the cart load of kit and joined Cap’n Calm at Wambas. Fin was already there attempting not to make friends with the only ant on the foreshore. The Cap’n was well advanced in rigging the wrong kit and we set about joining him. Hardlycrippled,Oaf,Impaler and Basil rolled in and soon we had the Manbra Mob exclusive.
Then RayGun who had been patrolling the back streets of Coodanup looking through the verge side piles of “Bring out your dead” for a decent hat, stumbled across our party and crashed it. Being the impressed that, one, he actually had found a hat and two, survived the experience, we let him join us.
The forecast promised a high end breeze along with a moderate tide. As you know Cheech and Chong have cleaned out the weed. Now Fangy’s in these conditions is a bit like a Nudist Camp.Your imagination has been concentrating on all the possibly good bits but in reality there are far more bumpy bits than you really would like to see.
Such it was at Fangys. But we of Manbra are made of sterner stuff and set about doing exactly not what ever Cap’n Calm had put in the play book for the day. I hit the soup with my fav combo f2waterlog, Kocept6.6 and Delta 21 glued on. Initially it was a bit light for this combo and I found my self sitting in few holes. Usually when this happens Fin appears like an apparition from nowhere and glides past fully powered to remind me that fat bastards on smallish boards have to pay the ferryman every now and again. It’s annoying when he is right.
When there was enough puff it was a very pleasant tour of Fangyland. I had the camera going and tried to get some decent bits of video. Unfortunately a lot of it will involve Stroppo who was having difficulty with his Vulcan ‘live long and prosper’ hand sign. He only ever managed to get one finger in the right spot.
I will post what I can over the next few days.
As the breeze filled in I decided to have a bit of fun trying different fins in the F2waterlog. So I swapped out the Delta for a 28 Fangyweedy. This fin held on like Bali street hawker. So as a result I went out into the chop for a muck around and started to entertain the idea of doing an hour out in the estuary. About 15 minutes into that I decided that with the current rate of bouncing on the chop I would probably end up looking like an Oompah Loompah before the hour was up so I came back in to the relative smooth.
The wind filled in a knot or two and rashly I decided to get JJ’s F2Xsmall for a play. I went for the Decrepit25 weedy and plopped the 6.6Koncept on top. At the best of times 120kgs of kit and keg on an 80 litre board requires a bit of skill. This is not something I have in abundance and I really struggled to get going and kept on missing the footstraps or generally stuffing it up. When I did get it going it was great and very comfortable in the small chop. But the price was that I drained my strength like having Delilah as a hairdresser.
I came in totally spent and I joined the boys at our exclusive after party on the shore. A brief discussion with Impaler resolved that I was an idiot and so with that in mind I went back out. This time I was back on the F2waterlog and MauiUltraFin 26 speed weed. This fin was ‘da business!’ I was immediately lamenting that my carcass had no go-go juice left. By now I was well powered up on the 6.6 and it was pulling like a locomotive off a cliff.I just did not have enough strength to hold on and push with my legs to do anything other than a couple of very short blasts. 35 knots on the F2Waterlog is very close to its top speed. 35 knots across the surface of a field of mutant pomegranates felt like close to light speed and I was bouncing around so much that I think my eyeballs must have looked like a whacked out druggie when my muscles simply did a ‘Lay down Sally (Robbins)’ and I collapsed for a rest.
Eventually it crossed my mind that it would be wiser to quit now before I hurt myself. I paid that as much attention as I do our team strategic planning. So I kept going. But not for long as I soon got to the point where I simply could not hold on and get the power down.I came in to sort out who I was going to award the privilege of packing up my kit to.
On the grassy slopes I was able to reminisce about some of the highlights. For me it was Oaf showing why he was so highly regarded as a windsurfing poster boy a few years ago. Whilst I was having a rest and chatting to Impaler out near Grumpynuts he launched the aptly named Sputnik on a chop hop that looked unbelievably high, fast and controlled with perfect touchdown. The second was to see all the A- graders out and giving a demonstration of what gybing is all about and fast. And third, it was at last ( disregard anything that Decrepit says to the contrary) a day that qualifies as a Top ten Fangy Day.
With so many sailors out with smiles on the dial how could it be anything but?
