Tabou Rocket wide 108L, NP RSR E6 6.4m, JP Weed 36cm

Nice bit of frontal sailing at Wamba, some nice wide gusts and relatively flat water.

Bit of fun setting up gear I haven't used for a while, going to have tyo check Talkiy toatser before I go out cause once again the first run she wasn't talking to me but once sorted all was good, though it would have been nice for her to learn some larger numbers.

Mike the Decreponator destroyed us all out the nailing a 36 in the deep chop and was smoking, my peak of 33 was on an unhooked run just hanging of the boom which I was quite happy that it all ended well.

Nice morning out, now got to get ready to go out with my lovely chicky babe, life dosen't get much betterCool

Could've done without the sting in the arch of my foot

wind was a bit up and down, managed to string a few half decent runs together.

used a 102 ltr rrd x fire with a 33 choco weedy and a 7.0 severne R3.

Wind variable  water surprisingly flat. Sail cut short by a small tear in my 4.5. I wimped out before it became a big one .

Wind at last, wind at last! It seems so long since I was powered up properly.  Got more than a few good gusts today but found my fitness let me down and the cold got to me in the end and I de-rigged while there was still wind and daylight. Good to see so many happy faces today.

Arrived at Wamba St just after 1000, 20+kts, no body there, apparently they were all too busy earnung brownie points.

So liesurely rigged the 5.8, plugged it and an old 24cm 42deg weedy in to the 48. (took Albys advice, for handling chop, at last and went with a bigger fin and set mast track 3/4 along masttrack instead of 1/4).

By the time I'd done that it was morning smoko, so poured my self a cuppa and had a slice or two of Dot's yummy carrot cake!

Fangy, Shane and Elmo arrived as I was demolishing the last slice of cake, left them to rig and went for it.

Thought to have a drink from the camel pack, only to find it wasn't there!! So went back in and strapped on about 2.5kg of water, I'm sure that helped a bit with the chop, but I didn't really notice any difference.

Well is Elmo right! That's the fastest I've gone in water this unsmooth, as long as I wasn't too over powered just felt comfortable, didn't even feel all that fast.

I was surprised to see a 36.6 on the GW52's dial, (although it is a very peaky 36, should have known it wouldn't resolve into a 36 2s when the xperia only said 35.7 for the 2s

During lunch "Ken, Basil, windxstasy, Ricey, yoyo and Andrew arrived and I changed down to the 5.4 as the wind was picking up.

It didn't feel quite as comfortable, although things slowly improved as I tweaked them. Tried a NM with 'ken, but I was getting to tied and couldn't cope with the swirly wind, bigger chop and gusts along the way, so went back to shortish runs close to shore trying to rake up some Ks.

All in all a great day, very close to predictions for a change just about a top 10 Fangy day.

 Xperia results.

It’s Sunday morning and I am back in the land of the living, but only just. Blimey, am I sore! I certainly caned the legs yesterday. Speaking of yesterday, let me give you the run down so that you have something to do between watching the rugby replays and avoiding the cricket replays.

The day started with a text from Shane at sparrows fart. Having driven 400 odd clicks to come and have a sail with the mob, he was parked down a Fangys wondering where we all were. Myself, I was still contemplating life with a coffee in my hand. So I quickly went down to check do check out the condition and tell him what he already knew.
I retired home to do my domestic god routine and having achieved a grade of ‘barely satisfactory’ in that department I was back down to my spot. Only to find it was now busy with those desperate to get a sail.
Now I have to agree with Wazzanothere that I am very suspicious about Dorothy’s cake. Young Decrepit was bouncy around the joint with eyeballs fully dilated and spinning in opposite directions. In fact, when I went past a certain part of the foreshore shrubbery this morning, I noticed that in the 24 hours since it was watered by the Cap’n it is now looking like something out of ‘Day of The Triffids’.
My plan next time is to distract the Cap’n with a technical problem with my phone and then raid his stash of cake.
Now you peeps that weren't there may think this is all a bit OTT, but when a bloke who doubles his weight by putting on his wetsuit and a waterpack sails like he did yesterday in  water that wasn’t super smooth, you would be looking for excuses too. Suffice to say the Cap’n nailed yesterday. To me he always looks fast and yesterday he really was.

Now back to the really important stuff. Me.  I had acquired Pepe’s KA Race 5.5 and decided it was strong enough to give it an outing. I was hoping like crazy that the wind would build a bit more because I was putting up less canvas than anyone else. I broke out the Vivien Leigh (vintage Missy Screamer) and MUF Speed Weed 26.
The result was a really happy choice for me. I was underdone for a good chunk of the day, but happy as a pig in mud for the stronger bits and sailed through the mental little squalls. I did some runs out through the chop and kept my inner Elmo full of chuckles. I still don't know whether its the weight, shape or whatever but the old board is really good fun out in the chop and whereas on my newer boards it’s a knee jarring ride across monumental eggcartons on the old girl is no problemo.
Still you can’t keep the need for speed out of the equation for long and so whenever I came back to Fangy’s there was always a bear away or two to be had. And once again, going for it across the smaller chop inside was a buzz but keeping up the speed once the chop started to build required immense concentration and soon enough the self preservation genes kicked in.

If there was a down side of the day it was a complete loss of sailing fitness. I had to content myself with shortish little sessions and then a rest. The upside of that was plenty time to have a chat with Elmo, Yoyo,Windxtasy,Tailwind,’Ken Oaf, AC1,Ricey, FatMatt,Basil and Tugger. It’s always brilliant to have a feed on everyone else’s stoke on a good day. Happily for those sailors who had not been there before it was worth the trip. I still love to see people come off the water with that mixture of smiles, exhaustion and with the endorphins running amok. Man I love this sport!

Absolutely a Top Ten Fangy Day :-)

Stay tuned and I will post a couple of quick vids later...

Conditions at Fangy's - in the sun..

Winter squalls too..

Gybing lessons : 1- hold onto the boom..

Finally, over in the bay at the river mouth I am having a chuckle at FatMatt trying to defy the weed and sail here with a pointer. You cant really see it on the video but he is cleaning off enough wed to need a Tip Pass to dispose of. After that just a quick look at the smaller chop near the boat channel.

Nice work guys. Wind was pretty rubbish down here, so good numbers from you Rat. I didn't bother rigging up. Wished I could have come north away from the wind black hole that is Bunbury.....

Elmo, it's extreemly easy to teach her bigger numbers, just select Km/hr instead of Knots and the numbers almost double!

Not only that you get the equivalent to half knot increments.

I couldn't get mine to talk to me at all. I couldn't remember how. It has been so long between sails that I forgot how to use the app in between times. It did record, just didn't speak, so totally useless.

Anita, there at least 2 reasons,

1 you had max speed set higher than you actually went.

2 you didn't have "speech" turned on.

I had "1" the other day, I had it set to 50 when I was in Km/hr , but somehow the unit changed to mph, there's no way I'm ever going over 50mph!

I couldn't remember how to turn speech on...

which was probably because I couldn't get it out of the opening screen.

Also is there any way to lock the phone so you can't accidentally turn it off or change settings?

Windxtasy

Ok I've worked out how to turn speech on now, although I'll probably forget again if it's ages before I get to sail again.

Is there a way to lock the phone?

and do you know what the timerange means?

Decrepit

WA
Australia

No and No. That's why mine is encased in rubber and plastic so nothing can be activated. This has it's downside, as you then have to come in, dry off, before changing the zoom view. Fortunately I can just make out the little numbers on the main screen, if I clear the plastic of water drops and block the sun from the display with my other hand.

Once you've set speech to on, it should stay that way unless you turn it off.

Anita, I think "timerange" is for an average speed reading, I'm not sure, but it may be the "speed" reading on the main screen next to the 5x10 readout.

Come rain, hail or shine!!  As soon as I head out of state the wind's up.... I was going to be your crowd!

Great results Mobbers..... I see you youngsters kindly "allowed" the evergreen Capt'n Carrot Cake to scoop the pool. "Allowed"? I don't think so....nice one Skipper.

It's a little known fact that the recipe for that particular carrot cake was the forerunner for the stuff Lance Armstrong used to scoff so be on the look out for more performance enhancing products from Dr. Dot's Delicatessen.

I'll be taking a trip out to Green Island next weekend to check they're doing things properly here in FNQ. I will be wearing shorts and a T-shirt.CoolMeanwhile I hope you all get some more knots to play in.
