Decrepit (54652km): Another fun sail at Fangys with too many fellow nuts to mention! I joined Strop, Luny and Gavin at Wamba St late morning, light off shore and not much water, Fangy, Fin and Grumpy joined us and the wind started to lift a bit. Decided that John St would be a better launch spot, not as far to walk into sailable depth. Wind was getting into John St much better, around 20kts, so decided on the 48cm with keefs 17cm deltoid and the 5.8. Had the board and fin set up when the wind lifted, I got a 34kt gust, the fin was struggling to rig my old avalon sail 5.4. I decided to have some lunch and see what happened after the big black clouds passed. Wind dropped back to 20kts, but I was too spooked by the 34kts gust to go with the 5.8, so rigged the new 5.4 koncept instead. Probably should have gone with the 5.8, a tad underpowered with the 5.4 most of time. xperia logit results 2s 33.045, 5x10 31.646, hr 17.080, NM 29.236, alpha 23.433, distance 67.29, again very close numbers, GW52 on head, xperia on upper arm. | ||||||||||||||||||
(Puf-) fin (15562km): Coodanup. WA. AU. The wind was up & down, an a bit shifty. I was half way riggeg when the wind realy started blowing an nearly lost the sail as Lunny walked by and just about took his head off, luckly no damigge done. Had the old slalom52, Avi 5.3, and 21cm weed47, wat a fun afternoon,... apart from the car sill having a problem,... will have to take more care!

fangy (22667km): Fangy's with the cast of Ben Hur. Below is why I will never be able to marry Grumpynuts ( there are probably other reasons, but none spring to mind at the moment) For the latecomers, Grumpynuts has been known to get a little "concerned" when his current dearly beloved manages to scratch a fin. I feel my effort goes beyond what could reasonably be called a scratch. As a result I feel ours would not be a marriage made in heaven. Soz Girlspeed, I knew you were pretty keen for whole thing to work out, but it looks as though things just arent going to fly this time. So what you are looking at is Wazzawrecker's old fin.It was a experimental test bed. I replaced the leading edge and experimented with slightly less rake and a fairly blunt leading edge. Unfortunately I got up close and personal with a largish waterlogged stick, that had floated down and out the from one of the rivers, going into a gybe near S bend. The rest is history and resulted in a trip in to change fins. So I spent the day on the Vintage Screamer, with Koncept 6.6 and Delta 21Slalom. But before I get too far ahead of myself, I should probably fill in a few blanks spots. I wandered down to Wamba just before lunch to find the place well and truly over run with Nannas. I began taking down number plates faster than a birdwatcher. The reason. I had no where to park. I was feeling pretty chuffed that I could disqualify a good chunk of the Coastal Nanna's on the first day of the the Fangtastic Five Comp. Then it dawned on me, the competition doesnt start for another month. Damn. Plan B. Tell everyone John St will be better. The result. En masse we decamped faster than any abomination has before and rolled around to John St. Huey got seriously busy and fairly let rip. The Nannas all got a bit excited and rigged small and left the beach smoking uphill only to run out of puff a little while later. The wise old Mobbers held fire and enjoyed a nice sesion in the aftermath of the carnage. It was certainly a bit up and down but for the most part I was a happy camper. I played around with mast foot settings today to see what effect they had on the old girl. I was still mucking around when I noticed Capn Calm lining up a nauti. Holy forgetful fudgebuckets Batman! I think I remember the team orders were to go and get one of those. Or was it? In the end I decided it was, so I had a crack as well. My timing was pretty good and I got all my speeds on the one nauti attempt. I would have gone again but apparently there was a 'Stop Work Meeting' called by most of my major muscle groups. Knackered after one run. So much for keeping sailing fit over winter. And that was pretty much my afternoon. Generally mucking about trying to improve my gybes and not really giving too much thought to anything other than putting a smile on the dial. The only real sphincter moment was seeing my first big stingray for the season gently glide in front of me, apparently with utmost faith in my ability to take evasive manouvres at speed. A few pleasant runs up and down later..... And eventually the squawking of hungry snotgobblers pricked my conscience to come on in. As I did so, it seemed to pick up again and I noticed a few guys with the hammer well down. I dont think I will ever get bored of watching boards at speed. The water at Fangys could do with quite a bit more weed growth yet, but it was brilliant to see so many out enjoying themselves in the relatively smooth water. You can just about feed on everyone's collective stoke on days like today. Possibly a Top ten Fangy Day? You bet :-)
