Andrew Haigh (50322km): Coal Point, NSW, AU CA70 and Maui TR8 7.6m - Solid 18-20 kts Went out with the sole intention of a 1 hour attempt. I had my Garmin on so I could monitor progress. Previous PB was 40.2km. Started off with long runs all the way from belmont to fishing point, After 15 mins I was just over 10k so looking good, but after 30 mins just under 20k. Decided I needed to bear away so I headed off to Valentine. Fortunately the wind kept blowing enough for me to get home. Carried both my GT31 and Canmore. I posted the average of the two.
2sec 5*10 1 hour Alpha NM Distance GT31 28.38 26.639 21.998 18.121 24.543 69.63 Canmore 28.30 26.642 22.004 18.157 24.521 69.886 Picture shows just the 1 hour part of my track.

Bruce Healey (24349km): Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU Early birds used all he wind. Nice warm southerly, Mick, Sue, Johnny, Wayne, Matt, Mark J, Glynn M. CASL62, 6.6, 19MUF
Byron Mcilveen (64447km): Bonnells Bay, NSW, AU new exocet RS4, Maui TR11 7.7, v max 39. A very quick sail before going to work as wind came in late. All about the hr today I went for it but with 15 min to go my harness line broke leaving only the plastic on the outside. I just had to grunt it out to get it finished and this slowed me down not even sure I got the whole hr in. I was hoping for a high 24 but hey great to be very powered up with 7.7 doing over 32 in that chop in open water I was happy.
sboardcrazy (25135km): 10-20kts + Buff Pt Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU Fun day! 89ltre falcon + 7m OD + 20 cm delta Might be an 89ltre board PB 2sec for me- usually I'd be on the 79ltre in those winds but too many holes at first- may have been ok after lunch- pretty consistent then. 1st session before lunch I was very happy with my gybes ( with the big sail) but couldn't get comfortable , felt yuck especially trying to go upwind everytime I got a gust and tried to go for it I'd spinout grr best speed 27kts. I need to plan where I gybe so there's consistent wind for the xit and I can try and get some better alphas..I don't usually have much of a break but nice long lunchbreak and socialise with Glynn , Sue, Maree , Mick and a few others. I think it was just not enough wind as the wind kicked in after lunch ( I was actually a bit worried about having the 7m up with some of the gusts as I was launching). Now I could get upwind well and fun on the bearaways - super flat water and quite a few yeehaas! Only scored one really nice gust in the flats. May have been quicker on the small chop as I'm sure I must have had a lot of drag with the deltas as it must have almost been on the bottom..I did one gybe and ended up standing balanced on the bottom waiting for wind to exit..Saw Wayno doing the same - looked funny.. I whimped and stayed in the flats as I didnt' fancy dropping the 7m in the deeper water and trying to waterstart the heavy sail in the flukier wind in there. I don't usually try to gybe in chop when I'm massively overpowered with the big sails but decided yeah why not go for it! Mmm now I know why I don't.. Tripped a rail on entry- don't know exactly what I did but Maree gave it thumbs up for acrobatic appeal..felt my knee go through the bottom panel did a forward roll and ended up under the board trying to find my way out.. I rarely stack it but when I do it's usually spectacular.. Bit of a buzz..pity re the sail..I swear that sail is jinxed Got it in perfect nick - so far broken 2 batten and now this..Hardly ever damage my sails.. gave Sue my camera and she did a great job of taking pics and some videos.. When I get a chance I'll post some. Glad I have a severne sail as there were so many KA sails out there today you won't know who's who.. Froth, Mick, Johnny, Matty, Glynn, Bruce, Mark J and Maree J, Wayne, Pete, Phil + others |
