Lumpy bumpy afternoon in the Broadwater. Low, low tide and a reasonable Northerly blowing.  Random learner kiters wafting past like fish and chip wrapping made keeping a particularly careful watch out essential. My knees now feel like they've been jackhammered so I am not a fan of the lumpy goodness and will gladly donate it to Elmo. Crossing the main channel here is lumpy like Liptons but add a few 30 knot party barges and Extreme ExciteMent jet boats driven by random Kiwis, apparently on ice bro', and there is a whole new dimension again....all I ever had to worry about at Fangy's was the occasional disorientated wokker and G'Nutz rock. Another big thunderstorm rumbled in about 3.00pm and since a local Stop/Go lady got her pole zapped and subsequently got well fried yesterday afternoon I was keen not to get rendered into a pile of Higgs Bosons by hanging onto a couple of excellent electrical conductors. Nor did i want to get any of these on the noggin so I ran for the hills.

.

More northerlies due over the next 4 -5 days so hopefully my fitness levels will improve. Work in progress.

Fangys for yet another quick session. This time it was squeezed betweeen showing a modicum of parental concern for a 'sick' snotgobbler at home and the ever present taxi duties for snotgobbler senior. The breeze was just enough for a session of bashing around on the barge. The repaired, and thinned down a little more, FatFangy fin was hammered in the slot, and not to be outdone by Pas’ recent efforts with duct tape, I have been going hard on my colander, otherwise known as my Koncept 7.5 sail.

I set up the deck chairs and relaxed by the pool as I cruised around on the barge. This has worked a treat and now I am totally relaxed and all is good. A Top Ten Fangy Cruise :-)

Todays mission was enjoyment, so used a bigger slalom board rather than the speed board, and a bigger fin, result heaps of fun, for a very brief period the wind blew hard, then backed off, I may have got the gust of the day? note the 2 sec versus the 5 x 10. had a 35.35 10 sec the rest were 32's and 31's.  Be interesting to see how the others went?

Sammy's call was go for everything to get a good start to the month, sounded very reasonable to me!

Just after 2pm, arrived at liptons to not a lot of wind or water. But it was forecast to pick up, Sammy and Hardie arrived, but none of us could decide what to do, eventually Sammy had the idea of the 5.8s and bigger boards to start, then go down to smaller boards if and when the wind picked up. So I plugged a 24cm weedy into the 53, but by the time I'd changed into wetty etc, wind had picked up, so I then plugged the 21cm weedy into the 48. Thought I'd better concentrate on an hour to start with, in case it got too strong later on. This was going well until I emulated yesterdays fail and got backwinded in a gybe, then to cap it off 10miins short of finishing, my harness hook was hanging around my knees, thought something had broken, but on investigation found it was only the clip that had come undone. In 30 years of windsurfing this is the first time it's happened to me. Bit frustrating, must have cost me half a knot, would have given me a 22. Wind then went all wobbly but in between the lulls I tried some alphas, without a lot of success, fortunately wind picked back up for a while, letting me get the 24.

Day3 Liptons, had a ball wiz Mike and Joe, good sailing Capt, and well done Joe on achieving day 5 out of 5 Wink and good speed on the slalom, TOLD YOU SO!! Feeling fatigued but thought I give all left in me today, plenty days to rest, sooo. Wind made us beleive for a minute was going to epic, then backed off on us.. My Alphas was terrible, too wide!! Great session anyway.

Wazza, thats some terrifying snow balls you got there wooow!! scary

Went for some photos shoots right at the front of Mike's place.. on the beach, u beauty ;)

Same gear again... that 2008 Slalom sail still got life left I recon!

Oh and Holy crap they are serious hail stones!  I hope ypu put the Lexus outside and kept your windsurf trailer in the garage so it didnt get damaged :-)

My trailer can handle pretty much anything except bridges with a 12T limit. A few huge hailstones?.....pffft. I tried my new Black ( can  I call it that?) Project WeedSpeed 25 in the Waihau ( the Kiwi jetboat drivers would have recognised the name...Kiwi for "wet wind"....I had thought that was a shart but I may be wrong) but the chop saw me spinning like a top. I was overcooked with the F2 and the Ezzy 6.5 and a large fin and the chop and arms like vermicelli so I had to change down. I'm going to have to get used to using pointers in shallow water....what could possibly go wrong? Lovely water temp so I was comtemplating a day with just the speedos but a man with a dog collar and his hands in his pockets was watching from a park bench so I lobbed the boardies on top toot sweet. Can't be too careful these days. Sorry to hear about the perforations in the KA  and the Kate Moss ex-fat Fangy Fin. Possibility I might do Cribby's course in Safety Bay in the New Year...be afraid.

WazzaGrandpa, you had better check that Cribby course, I don't think he has an old fart discount? But you can take the McTavish along to impress him if you wish. Look forward to catching up if the holes in the cheese align 😀

Joe, that's a pretty hot alpha for someone who is just enjoying himself.

The thing with Joe, Anita, is he really enjoys doing good alphas, (as do I) it's a real buzz

Another nice session to start the month, you guys have certainly been getting some consistent if not overly strong winds up there. Think the Alpha and hour are already better than last months. Noice

On the weather, watched one of those BoM updates the other day. Talked about the the Southern Annular Mode (SAM) which measures the North/South movement of Westerlies & High Pressures systems. Mentioned it was in -ve phase meaning the Highs & Westerly belt are more North than usual, which to me doesn't sound all that promising for many decent Easterlies down here Frown

Interesting stuff Morts. I wonder what effect it will have on the west coast. My optimistic guess is that cold fronts will penetrate further north and hopefully interact with the heat troughs coming down the coast and pull them inland more often: cooler weather and better sea breezes for us, but as you say, maybe not so good for you.

Fangy, below is a link to the BoM outlook for the next couple of months. Does mention more likely to be cooler than normal over South Western WA which may be good for you guys.
