fangy (22667km): How good was that? Calling it right now, defo a top ten TTFD. The tide was too low and the wind to south to sneak out from S bend, so I had to brave the crabs from the Nairns end, past the heavy machinery building a bigger kick arse breakwater/seawall from S Bend to Nairns. The council is taking this rising sea level business seriously indeed! I suspect we will see a wall building delegation from the Trump Administration on site soon. On the downside it’s not an easy wall to climb across with gear in your hands. I think access to the water will be limited to the existing limestone ramps, unless they build access points like the Hook area on the Coodanup foreshore. So far I have not seen any of those being constructed, but stay tuned…
I wanted to get out early as Stretch had threaten to turn up, and given his recent form with banishing any breeze in his vicinity, I didn't want to risk getting becalmed because of his presence. Of course, I also had the ever present parental responsibilties. ( I am guessing its too late to just eat them and be done with it?).
The Koncept Duct tape 7.5 for the oomph, the Party Barge for the deck chairs and the rather radical short fat fangy (nee 22 but has been smooching the realestate a bit of late to be closer to 18) was the combo of choice. I got out the old Missy edge, but then thought better of it. The risk of vertical poles posed by Stretch was too great. As it turned out, I shouldnt have worried and I shouldn't have been so lazy either. But once I was out on the barge, life was too good to be bothered with coming ashore and swapping boards. At least I took a photo to show that I had good intentions at the start.(the plan being to do a before and after on the fin). This is as close to the water as the Missy Edge got.
Everything is a bit sore but in a really good sorta way. I hope the rest of your mob enjoyed yourselves as much as me. Grin from ear to ear = Top Ten Fangy Day

Hardie (35820km): Liptons, At last I rigged right, great conditions, lotsa happy windsurfers, Mike and Sammy sacrificed themselves for distance, whereas stretch and I went for speed. Coastal ST out there doing damage late in the session, so watch out for them.
If I hadn't have been so slack and lazy I might have cracked 40kts today, the fin was roughed up from last session and I thought I should sand it, nah can't be fucked wont make that much difference DOH!! And I didnt pull all the downhaul on the sail, thinking it might stay on the lighter end DOH Squared!! Sure if these things hadov been fined tuned 40 kts was achievable as there was enough wind. Still was very exhilirating

SluGger (13777km): Peel Inlet, WA, AU What a fantastic day! rigged up with Sammy and Mike with the aim for distance but struggled to get going on various boards / fins. Had a chat with Mike and ended up trying out his ka race 6.3m this worked a treat but was just missing a decent fin, up turned Tomski borrow one of mine, awesome. The words of the day for me were " SOMEBODY STOP ME !! " I had a ball .. good to catch up with everyone I am exhausted will fall asleep smiling but. oh and slightly poorer . Thanks Mike, Sam and Tom for your help , great to catch up with everyone else..

Decrepit (54652km): One sore little old man here! But a fantastic day, great to have most of our Bunbury contingent sailing with us. Wind was good when Sam, Simon and I arrived at liptons around 0800. I went for comfort, rigged the 5.8 plugged into the 53cm board with a 26cm 45deg weedy. This worked well untill about 1030 when the wind got very holey, by 1100 I'd had enough grovelling across the chanel, so went in for an early lunch. Ratz and Noal arrived, by 1200 the holes started to disappear, by 1500 I had 150kms up so went in for a cuppa. Stretch and Joe arrived, and wind started to pick up, I changed down to the 5.4, 48 and 18cm 50deg assy. Had a gfew speed runs and alpha attempts, but for some reason my gybes went wide, I had several 25s at 60m and one at 55m, on a trip to point grey my outhaul snapped, (thanks Stretch for checking on me). Fortunately there was enough rope left to restring it, then on the way back I spun out in the chanel chop, then a run later the gw52's battery ran out, so the numbers are all from the GT31. My right shoulder was also telling me it's not quite a 100% yet, so I let the 200km slip by and went in. Thanks Sam and Simon for the company and distance back up.

Sammy the snail (29353km): Liptons, full day, good crew, great to catch up with Ratz and Stretch, pitty I did not have energy left at the end of the day for the speed (big board sess killed me ah ah ah), but my mission was to back up Mike, 160km he asked . Well done el Capo on your pefs today, great job on Joe and Stretch for the speed back up, smoking JoJo , you are the king . And well done Simon on the PBs, you just needed to be pushed a little Good time all together, but until 3 in the arvo, the condition was quite terrible, up down right left pretty much.. Elmo (31542km): JP Supersport 100L, NP RSR E6 6.4m, JP Weed 31cm Didn't hit the water till 5.30 the wind was nice and solid (hence the smaller kit) but I was expecting it to fade, thankfully my expectations weren't met. Sailed Novara, I could see all the speedies over at Point Grey but opted for some deeper water on the low tide. Possibly about 50m of flatish water the rest lumpy goodness, made an attempt at a naughty hoping to crack a 30 just not good enough today. Whole lotta fun, a few yeaharghs and woohoo's may have been vocalised. Great fun
Stretch (31360km): Peel Inlet, WA, AU. CA52/Tushy5.8. Terrific sail, made even better by being able to get away from work a little early. Was going to Fangys, but reconsidered at the last moment and headed for Lipton instead - sorry to stand you up Fangy. Given Ive scored a bit of wind now is my ban lifted? By the way, what sort of soft Fangster alloy did you use for the fin to wear down so quickly. I have an old FInworks weedy you can borrow, might be a bit harder? As fun as it is, enough Fangy sledging. Good wind and a good crew at Liptons. Great to see the whole Bunbury crew rock up. Congratulations on the PBs Simon. You realise you have to go back and do the extra km now! Terrific distances Mike and Sammy, you will sleep well tonight. Excellent speeds Joe, you smoked me darn it! A bonza sail - pumped!!
ratz (10868km): Peel Inlet, WA, AU a good sail at liptons with a good crew out. |
