Hardie (35900km): ![]() Surprisingly good sail at Liptons on a frontal wsw to sw. When wind kicked in wish I'd beeen on my fave gear. Tabou Manta 59/88 TR9 7.0m Pepeweed 23.5/48, I think lots enjoyed it out there
Elmo (32159km): ![]() Tabou Rocket wide 108L, NP RSR E7 7.0m, JP Weed 31cm First sail since the 12th of Feb and wasn't I feeling it, must have lost at least a couple of litres of snot out there today and coughed up quite a few chest oysters. Twas very gusty oiut but even saying that it was also a very enjoyable sail, rigged enough to get back which looked interesting due to the heavy westerly component in the breeze, Pt grey was a lot of fun and everyone out there had great smiles on their faces, Decrep was hooning around hootin and a hollering. Hardz racked up Nº 18 Elmo Arse kicking for the season. Great to catch up with Roger. Fun day out but I'm well and truly jiggered now.
evets (21562km): Dr Cams secret spot ( or Lilacs in a westerly), WA, AU JP54SP Tr17 5.5 MXR24 Great to have a sail in westerly with Shane. Thanks for hanging around Shane and making sure I was ok, in a westerly a problem could turn nasty. Conditions were taxing, forecast 28-34 knots, actual 8-28 knots. Must use my M91 in the winter, to give a bit more float and probably faster over the chop. Happy with the first outing of the 5.5, very stable and easy to use. Just needed a bit more consistent wind. Tried for a westerly NM at the end, it shows that it was gusty. Session 17 of the year, 10 over 35 knots, ave 2 sec 34 knots. what a great year. 6 sessions NM> 30 kts,
storm surge: water was chopier when tide was rising ( wind against tide) a bit draggy with the 24@45 degrees.
And the NM, it was fun but not quick.
Stretch (32554km): ![]() Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU. CA52/HSM GPS6.0/Choco WS30. Sailing with son Lachy. Been awhile and I felt fairly rusty, but great to finally get out. Bearing away in the chop certainly got the adrenalin pumping!
Sammy the snail (29353km): ![]() SBay, could not be stuffed going down.. quick sess at the local only a full hand sailing in very W gusty wind. Messy out, so play around on the edge of the pond, only a small space to play.. really!!. Not too bad, good to get wet. Iso85, RSR5.8, LSW25, happy days
SluGger (14093km): Peel Inlet, WA, AU
Rigged the small gear, sailed out about 300m turned back and changed up a board probably should of gone bigger sail to, we live n learn. Had a nice get off towards the end, gave Glen a good laugh , Was still such a good day with great company and good to meet ??? oh yes Roger I remembered Rog
fangy (22943km): ![]() Lunny messaged at sparrows fart spouting some malarky that his team Captain had organised and paid for day passes and he was going out a Wamba. That was enough to have me choke on the smashed avo, crispy ham and egg foccacia that eldest snotgobbler had just served up for breaky.
I jumped in every dictators favourite staff car to find that not only Lunny, but also Boz were confusing the drug dealers in the carpark. Add to the mix ‘locals’ Joe and Ian and eventually Shane and the whole place was looking like some sort of Andre Rieu fanclub meet.
Once everyone had sorted out their prosthetics, hair pieces and whatnot it was time to get wet. I went the Vintage Missy Screamer, Koncept 6.6 and FangyFin MkII. Boz, decided to get on my bad side by out-vintaging me, by cracking out the Tiga 265. Insulted, I slipped slipped off my riding gloves and slapped the scoundrel with a challenge. Vintage drag race time. Boz not scared of a challenge and keen to play a few minds games, tried to psych me out by showing off the hydraulic auto sensing rocker trim ride system on the Tiga. There are pieces of plasticine that are stiffer and trampolines that are less bouncy. Challenge accepted, the plastic fantastics went at it for a good three or four minutes and then I was too puffed and Boz needed a smoke. Still, it was exhilarating while it lasted.
Usually I can outlast Hardly, so to be puffed so soon meant it was time to go in and have a puff on the ventolin. Except I forgot it. I called up the first aid Suzuki with the hottest nurse , a few deep breaths and bingo I am back in the game.
By now Lunny had exceeded the speed of light and was looking younger each time I saw him and Boz just kept handing out lessons to me like a metronome set on “thanks for coming”.
But despite the Pinnas, it was a damn good splash. The tide was too high for any smooth, but Lunny whacked out a 38 on his big board just to remind us that he is not normal, and I should stop being so worried that my tiara will fall off with the bumpiness of the water. Lesson learned it was time to get the Screamer at the top end of its design range.
Boring fin board stuff here- skip to the end to find out the nasty bit. In my hands, in nice small chop and wed to the Screamer, I think 35 knots might be the top end for the FangyFinMkII. But the composure at 35 in small chop is another world compared to my other 55 degree fins. I used to be really tense trying to go fast in small chop, just waiting for that piece of chop that would be just big enough for the back end to suddenly let go. By comparison, today I was totally relaxed at speed, the fin did its thing, and I did mine, and it was brilliant. It never let go nor misbehaved. Interestingly, bearing away with the board tilted to leeward, the lift from the fin was enough to lift board and its keg-like cargo up like a hydrofoil. The first time it caught me by surprise. Thereafter I tamed it and let the Screamer ride up on the fin so that entry point was close to the fin itself. Trim the board flat in all aspects, sit back and relax and mow down some small chop. I have no idea if this is just me, or the old board or the fin or all of the above, but it’s a giggle to be able to do it in small chop on a shortish fin, without fearing a drastic end.
I was getting tired so I thought a few u turns at speed to try out the fin was in order. The water up near Wamba was the best for this so I had a few cracks and walked away with a top 5 alpha. Yeehaaa! I am stoked with that, as all the others were done on butter smooth, whereas today it was a bit more peanut paste. Tick one, old board and fin combo. I tried a few heffalump foot transfers to upset board trim going into the gybe. On the Delta, this was a guaranteed spin out, but today it was just manifest as a slow gybe with no hysterics at all. Slightly impressed with myself I tried a power slide. These don't work if you step off the end of the board…
You have read up to here patiently waiting for the nasty bit. The nasty bit is that I forgot to close off the trophy comps for 5x10 and Fangtastic Fangy Five whilst I was still the owner of the best scores. I have no doubt that Lunny has got a very firm grip on both of the trophies. Told you it was nasty.
But I am the bigger man, so I will close with Top Ten Fangy Day.
Actually it really was.

(Puf-) fin (15971km): ![]() Peel in, WA AU . liptons, Well I dont kno,... Im thinking my GPS is a bit slow, I was going a lot faster,.. honest. Anyway, more later.... I couldnt quite get settled, so I spent a bit of time doing a few ajustments, as the wind at pt Grey was a bit more than I expected,. It was still fun scooting arownd with the usual suspects plus a few new ones,... Had the muffn47, ka kon5.8 and yo24cm/47 weed, and was thinking of changing down a size, but after having a braek and ajusting the sail again things went a bit better.... A top day out,....

Decrepit (55576km): ![]() Liptons with a great crew out, WSW off shore when I arrived so very hard to know what to rig, so took a gamble on the 5.8, 48 and 20cm 40/60deg weedy. Amazingly this was close to ideal, the 43cm board would have been too small in the lulls, a lot of the time the 6.2 would have been ok, but in the bigger gusts I was doing a bit of tail walking with the 5.8. And I just love this fin, rock steady and slippery, not so good if there's weed on the surface, but high tide today meant weed was well down. Thought I had better alphas, but looks like I was going in too high, only 25kts on the run in, and 30 on the run out. So Simon blame me, I lead you astray, follow hardie next time. Great to meet Roger, looked like he was enjoying himself. here's what the watch said. 2s 36.404, 5x10 34.252, 1hr 14.919, alpha 23.936, NM 27.434, dist 91.49.
