Melville Beach, WA, AU. A repeat of yesterday other than wind delayed about 2hrs.   Pleasant enough cruise with just 2 wings for company.   Rigged down and of course wind improved quite a bit.

Left Perth at 3.30am and arrived at 8.30 for a 9am Start in 8-15kts. Used the Manta 81 and Evo 7.4 Tribal wsp 22. lots of Drag and lulls so only managed 100km by 12.30. The wind came a little and swapped to the Manta 66 for the rest of the day. Finished at 7.30pm with thanks to Anita for holding a touch near lilacs for guidance and Ant supplying pizza and beer at the end of the day. I though I'd be wrecked after the kms but felt quite good. Happy with what the conditions allowed and thoughly enjoyed being out on the water for so long.

Albany, WA, AU Is111, 5.4K, 22FF

Last minute decision to trek to Albany again rather than stay in the stifling heat of Perth.

It was a glorious day in Albany, 28 degrees and sunny with blue skies. Only needed a short wetsuit.

I thought I would do an hour to keep Woody company as Ant was worn out and resting a lot after yesterday's big effort.

I had a lot of trouble with weed catching in the front of my delta fin with the Sonic, The weed was right on the surface so any little gap and the weed  would get picked up. After much toing and froing with a screwdriver without success, in the end I went with the big board and a fangy fin.  The big board is much slower than the Sonic and I thought it would be underpowered with the 5.4 but it felt quite comfy so I kept going. After all the messing around with the fin I couldn't really be bothered rigging a bigger sail and I wasn't sure I could keep gybing a bigger sail for an hour. There was still a lot of weed drag slowing me down so I kept to the choppy portion of the bay as the shallows were too draggy. This cut out about half the length of the bay.  Disappointed with the hour as I didn't drop any gybes and was planing all the time except mid gybe. It was still my best hour since 2018, and my best distance since 2020, and I did enjoy myself sailing up and down in the sunshine. Good to be getting some fitness back.

What is with the 17.6 kn alphas? Same as I got last session!

It was inspiring to watch Woody just zooming along despite all the weed drag. Don't know how he does it. Glad to have witnessed part of his big success.

Thanks to Flex the IT guru for talking me through the wireless set up on his (approved) GPS so I could get the data via WiFi without the SD card reader

Glad to see you were having some fun despite the heat.

Very low tide all day in Albany,  fairly consistent wind 14 - 16 kn. weed was super draggy. I forgot my card reader so no post from me tonight.

There will be one very special post though, if he has any energy left to post it...

Awesome effort Woody, a HUGE PB, especially given the dense weed on the surface which made for less than ideal sailing conditions! I am glad I was there to witness the event.

Great backup from Antman considering he was really tired after yesterday's big effort, and nice work on the hour, guys.

Sue, fairly marginal forecasts for down here but at least it is cool. Better than the 37 degrees and little wind forecast for Perth all week this week. Didn't want to waste the last week of my holidays sitting in front of the airconditioner

Mark, that's ridiculous!  That's 5X the distance between Perth and Mandurah and I find that hard when driving!  Congratulations.  Endurance is harder than speed.  Speed is a gift.  Endurance is effort.  You do both and you enjoy both.  Fantastic.  And thank God for Frenchman's Bay eh?  Fingers crossed that the weed doesn't die.

Hey Flex, just talking to your old man and he said your sailing a lot now in some gps team challenge. I said I’m in that, I’ll find him.. we lived on the farm in Glasshouse 20 odd years ago. Happy sailing.
