Last minute decision to trek to Albany again rather than stay in the stifling heat of Perth.
It was a glorious day in Albany, 28 degrees and sunny with blue skies. Only needed a short wetsuit.
I thought I would do an hour to keep Woody company as Ant was worn out and resting a lot after yesterday's big effort.
I had a lot of trouble with weed catching in the front of my delta fin with the Sonic, The weed was right on the surface so any little gap and the weed would get picked up. After much toing and froing with a screwdriver without success, in the end I went with the big board and a fangy fin. The big board is much slower than the Sonic and I thought it would be underpowered with the 5.4 but it felt quite comfy so I kept going. After all the messing around with the fin I couldn't really be bothered rigging a bigger sail and I wasn't sure I could keep gybing a bigger sail for an hour. There was still a lot of weed drag slowing me down so I kept to the choppy portion of the bay as the shallows were too draggy. This cut out about half the length of the bay. Disappointed with the hour as I didn't drop any gybes and was planing all the time except mid gybe. It was still my best hour since 2018, and my best distance since 2020, and I did enjoy myself sailing up and down in the sunshine. Good to be getting some fitness back.
What is with the 17.6 kn alphas? Same as I got last session!
It was inspiring to watch Woody just zooming along despite all the weed drag. Don't know how he does it. Glad to have witnessed part of his big success.
Thanks to Flex the IT guru for talking me through the wireless set up on his (approved) GPS so I could get the data via WiFi without the SD card reader
