691 days ago Albany, WA, AU. Started early on the off chance of some wind. From yesterdays light but steady wind in warm weather today was cold gusty dog's breakfast. Started at Lilacs and cruising nicely at 22kts one moment then 2kts the next...since used the FF18 stayed in the weed bank for the smooth but the wind was worse than Melville on a bad day. After 2hrs of hard work had done 36 or so km and no chance of doing big distance so stopped for lunch and swapped to Shoal bay. Had a mate that wanted to try windsurfing so gave him the big board and small sail. Wind had picked up to 18kts gusting to 25 and sun had come out so rigged 7.8 but was still much chugging so rigged the big sail but not much better. Pretty much did a run, helped my mate out, repeat. Some teabags came to join but they also had a frustrating day. At least the water was warm in shoal bay. Morning iSonic 117, SvT 8.6, FF18V4, afternoon iSonic97, FF22

Fabulous day in the water, great way to end the year! Powered by 5m Severne NCX and trusty Tabou rocket. Gaining confidence and improving technique with the help of Waricle. Here’s to better scores in 2023! 🤘

691 days ago Coodanup, WA, AU A fun sail to finish off the year. Used the 6.3 SCR, 53 Patrik for most of the sail, then swapped rigs for my last couple of speed runs with my Dad's 5.8, 50 iSonic and was smashing 38's no worries.

691 days ago A great day on the water with plenty of Melville converts joining the usual Coodanup crew.
Distance was the mission today, so I thought I had better lead by example and go for distance as well. Feeling good at 40 km I decided to beat Mondays distance (which was my best since 2018) and go for 65 km. It was a bit of a struggle around 55 km, then I got a second wind. Passed 65 and decided to go for 75. I should have stopped at 74.9, but then I wouldn't have this rather amazing story to tell. See below.
Very pleased with a top 5 distance, my best since 2013!
Well done everybody, esp Richo for his PB distance.
The rest of the story: I had planned to stop at 75 km but when I got back to my start point the GPS read 74.9. Off to do another 100 m upwind, I saw a group of sailors at the top carpark and thought I would check in on how they had done. I was almost there, when Whump! My fin hit a rock and I was catapulted, still hooked in. I was quite shaken up and it took a while to unhook. Richo came over to see how I was and I had a bit of a chat to him, congratulating him on his distance PB, then set off to sail home only to realise I had lost my hat and prescription glasses in the catapult. It didn't take long to find the hat (it floats) but I could not find the glasses. I was grovelling around on hands and knees feeling through the weed and the muddy bottom. I didn't want to give up because those glasses were expensive - special ones with a strap for sailing so they don't come off (ha!)... but I was about to give up when I saw a man with a metal detector on the shore only meters away. I explained my dilemma and he came over with the metal detector to help out. Then comes Rob, who asks what we are looking for, then explains that he hit the very same rock and it knocked his fangy fin right out of the board and he couldn't find the fin despite 20 minutes of looking. So Rob joins the search, feeling around on the bottom with his bare feet and finds my glasses in no time. (Whew, that was a relief!) Then he points out the very sizable rock that he hit. I lifted it (with difficulty) and removed it to the shore so no-one else would suffer the same fate. Then metal detector man finds a strong signal and I fossick around in the mud and find Rob's fin! Success all round! Thanks Rob and Metal detector man! Whilst we found Rob's fin I am not sure it can be resurrected, the part in front of the front screw had been completely knocked out.

Bumpy ride on the swan today with the 9'4" Windtech and 6.1 Loft Speedblade. Wished I'd headed down to Coods. Looked like a great session from all the numbers. Nice work Pinnas!

Very enjoyable NY Eve, with lots out enjoying a moderate breeze.
Great to have a chat with Anita, Gloria, Boz, Richo and several Meville sailors.
Happy with the alpha, thought I had done a bigger distance but did not zero the watch. Anyway, my body felt it was a greater distance!
Rocket 105 most of the time, then the 125 which was better through the lulls and jybes so more enjoyable; Koncept 5.8; 20 and 22 deltas
This session lifted me to overall no.1 on GPSTC for 79-100 year olds, at least for the time being, so a Happy New Year.
