Hardie (35820km): Liptons/PointGrey first speedsailing session in nearly a year, what a sensatoional feeling speedsailing is. Shoulda done 5 runs only did 4x, played it safe. Elmo (31521km): Patrik 87, NP RSR E6 6.4m, Pepe Weed 23cm Liptons, didn't hit the water til 5pm, was fun, plenty of wind in the middle but f-all either end. Did 3 runs across the channel then flagged it as there was a fair bit of wildlife over on Point Grey. Another hole in the sail as well
Firiebob (17904km): Liptons, WA, AU What an awesome day, I was there when Hardz came out of retirement and did some cracker runs, he was grinning from ear to ear. The ledgend himself Mad Mike was going for it in the lumpy bits, caught up with Speedboat and Mr Tribal himself Peter and a whole bunch of good guys. It was a bit full on for me at first untill I got my MoJo back, I then headed to the other side to watch the master himself (Hardz) and learn some lessons, had a great time there untill I started going slower each run so called it. Decrepit (54652km): So looks like I've revereted to captain slow!. Guess i should have braved the channel and sailp Pt Grey. I did find some flat water deep in Lipton Bay, but the wind there didn't quite do it. If I'd used a 40/60 fin the chop would have been easier, but the constant 55 isn't so good in chop. Anothe silly old fart moment as well, I had the starboard assy fin on and was doing runs on Port, another eason I should have crossed the channel or used a different fin. Also the 5.2 has a broken batten, so was hard to rotate, and didn't have optimum shape, no idea if that slowed me down or not, but it took more energy out of me getting water started. The Frankenstein mast I use with the 5.2 was also shrinking so I lost a bit of downhaul during the sail. I'm surprised by this as I'd glued the two pieces togther, I though very well. I'd bogged over the join to make it smooth, but the bog is getting compressed at the join and making a lip as the top slides inside the bottom. I guess I need to use a harder mix at the join to stop this happening. Oh and I used the 48cm board. That at least was the right choice. And another high note, I found the prescrition glasses I misplaced yesterday.
TOBYchef (1526km): Coodanup, WA, AU. Great fun in the chop. Great to see so many sailers out. |
