Mineral (4665km): Session kicked off with great intent. Second run, snaped old faithful JP 30% 4.90 mast for the 8.5 Sobering swim back to shore, kicked the dust for a while wondering if the 7.5 would cut it. In the end it did, but only only just til right at the end when the breeze began to improve a tad and I was worn out anyway. Bloody lots of holes and knocks in the breeze today
Snake (23888km): Safety Bay from 1:45 backing up JJ for distance and generally just cruising. Also joined by Grumpy. Very light today which was hard work to start off with but improved slightly in the last hour or so. Weird weather but the wind stayed in just long enough to almost back up JJ Iso90, Ram F13 7.0, FO Proto 32
JJ (25827km): Safety Bay, WA, AU Distance session with Grumpy and Jake - wind was pretty light at first so sailed the first 50 km with the F2 77 wide. Nice and cruisy but the 40cm fin was a real weed trap. The wind came in at about 3 for a couple of hours to a nice 18 knots, grabbed the Futura which though not particulary quick is super relaxing to sail. Quite a fun session F2 SX 120L, Futura 101, Hot Sails gps 6.6, Vector Weedys 40 and 34
Grumpy (8011km): Started out slogging but ended up being a nice sesh with JJ and Snake. JJ was on a mission for distance. Glad Snake was there to back him up as I couldn't be bothered sailing the big gear so just bummed around untill the wind came in a bit. Pretty happy with my new "custom" fin. Was totally frustrated with the weed fin in my 86Is last sesh so I did a bit of research in the forums and then took a saw and a grinder to my 30 Choco weedspeed. Bit of a gamble seeing I only have one weedy for this board but it payed off. I changed the shape and the cross section and shortened it by 2cm. The new "Grumpy Custom 28" is heaps better. Slippery as and it trucks up wind. Amazing how making a fin smaller can actually improve its performance. No spin out hammering through the chop out the front on the run from Penguin Is. Hard work going for the nm through the ocean. I was totally knackered by the end of the run down from the Island. Had a few cracks at it hoping for a PB and it payed off. 86Is, 6.3LB, 28 weedy, Safety Bay, WA, AU Well done JJ and Snake. Nice bump in points |
