Yet another howling NEster. I was sick of hanging on for my life, so went with the 10 year old 5.0 wave sail on the i97. Worked surprisingly well. In retrospect it was not as strong as I expected and should have gone with the 5.8 race sail, but the wave sail atleast allowed me to do some fast gybes. I was impressed with the speed it had, but it did not have enough shape to really bear off deep down wind. I had to do my speed runs at a shallower angle or it just had no power.... but over 31 knots is better than I expected, and it was nice to be in control and comfortable for a change. I think my fastest speeds may have been coming into the shore. The wind was getting close to the shorelines at times today.

The wind at LG seems to be strong but you are using quite small sails. is the wind quite "dense"? For that wind strength Id be using a 7.0.

we are coming down next week so really curious. Thanks foryour help.

Cheers,

Larko

LG's water is saltier than seawater, also the water is flatter, together can use smaller sails than what you'd normally use. Also you'll run out of gas after a few hours sailing with bigger sails. You'll see!!

George, for interest, how flat is it currently? And how much water over the weed?

Thanks guys! For fast gybes, simply try a good slalom board with a wave sail!! And for a good 1 hour, just go out on a good day and do not stop for a break for an hour. I had to be home for dinner so I just sailed hard for 2 hours and then packed up and left. It was a good sail. Glad I went out. Nice distance powersloshin!!

Larko, Seaskip, my wind speed is just an estimate, PJ reckons it was 14-20 ! But the wind here is a lot steadier than where we sail, probably because there is so much open space, so you don't need to rig for the lulls. There is still water over the weeds, but the (small) chop is very regular, so it's easy to reach up and down, but I haven't still found the best place to bear away.
