Great sail out today. Good to see Artur, Remi, Des and probably other DDs I don't recognise out there. I had to leave early, so did not get time to talk much.

First hour was pretty sedate with the 6.7. I was a bit underdone, but it was nice and cruisey. Then I fell in a gybe and without really thinking I did anything, I got up and there was a rip in the foot of the sail. Not sure what happened. So went in and swapped to the hellcat 6.2 Luckily it cranked in while I did that, and the 6.2 was pretty good. Runway runs were working better than in ages. I wish I got a good run with the 6.7 in the stronger wind later on, as I would have thought I could eek a little more speed than on my 6.2 RAF hellcat, as it is more stable and I think I could have held onto it. Still, not complaining about the speeds on the Hellcat. Remi was flying as usual, and Artur looked like he was going quick also, but maybe a bit too big on the board in the stronger wind?

I have to get my sail repaired. I have not done this in a couple of years. Is Barracoouta out Miranda way still the pick? A bit of a logistical nightmare for me to get it to and from them unfortuantely. Is there anyone doing sail repairs closer tot he Norwest of Sydney?

Cheers,

Adrian

Awesome day at Kyeemagh. Stoked to break 25kts :)

I noticed a few blokes blasting up and down (baring off a bit?) right beside the runway, where it was super flat. It was getting choppy in the middle and I felt a bit out of control, but managed to hang on. Next time I'll try shifting my mast foot back a bit coz it felt like I was going to nosedive the back of the chop on the way in. Will definitely get a bit nore adventurous next time and try blasting along side the runway... not sure how else I'm going to keep making PBs otherwise?

Met Remi... was good to get some feedback on my style and setup :)

6.0m, 115ltr Tabou Rocket, FO Nitro 33... gusting between 22-28kts.

Wind came in angry 25+ a bit late in the afternoon but some good runs down the runway between jumbo jets etc...

Good to see a good crowd on the water (minus jetskis...) pushing in these challenging conditions.

Could not settle down, tried the JP, but the sail was too big, a nightmare combination to waterstart, it sucked all my remaining energies..

Nice one guys! Looks like a good session for the team. Great fun chasing you Artur! Remi is just so quick!! George and Nigel, I have to work out who you are!! I was on a grey isonic with a orange/grey RS slalom for the first half, and a grey/light blue/aqua hell cat for the second half. Second half was mostly working the runway.

Well done on the PBs Nigel! 25+ knots is quick, and you are just getting back into it. If you spend some time over near the runway, you would have added a 2-3 knots to that. It is not as flat as some of the places people sail in weed banks and behind sand bars etc. and you still feel the chop plenty, But it is much better than the middle. Unfortunately often the wind does not get in particulalry well down the runway, but it was pretty good yesterday compared to most times I have sailed there in the last year.

Great work guys. I had a very unusual sail yesterday, wind was flukey with small storms all around me. Wind rushing into them to the west, then rushing back out to the East. Not worth posting apart from a possble although SLOW alpha completely on port tack (the wind swung at the perfect time) FREAKY!!

I'm interested to know how long everyone has been sailing.

Me 2 years last June, how about you guys?

About 25 years for me. But I am not the keen bean I used to be. I am lucky to sail 10 times a year these days and never in Winter!!

5 years and 6 months, I missed a couple of summers for injury and other commitments, but otherwise sailed at every opportunity. I started learning at 55, so need to take my time, but still improving.

Artur, next time Adrian is around please introduce us, you are the only one that knows both.

Thanks for sharing fellas, Adrian you must have sailed a few places in your time. Any wave sailing? George, your enthusiasm is awesome. You certainly make a big effort to get to new spots, looking forward to LG next year, just hope the stars align this time.

My uncle was into windsurfing when I was young, so I sailed his fun board a bit until I got my license and got a short board. Was then into slalom sailing for a few years (but no GPS back then, so just drag racing with mates). In there I got married and have two kids 9 and 11, so have had some droughts of sailing, but have sailed atleast once every summer. About 10 years ago I got more into bump and jump with FSW boards. Got my current isonic slalom about a year ago, and enjoying that.

I have never sailed outside of Australia, but have sailed all over the east coast of Australia (including a windless Sandy Point and a great sail on Port Phillip Bay). Had a few great sails in the Whitsundays rigging on the front of a cat, and throwing gear over the side to sail inbetween islands. Have sailed the good spots in WA with the best sails being Corronation, Geraldton and a great sail in the swan river. Never really done wave sailing, but have ridden waves and jumped them on FSW gear. Currently in my early 40s with a couple of decades of sailing still to go hopefully!!

When I was young, I would go to the water on the chance of wind, and just hang around talking and waiting for wind. These days I will not go to the water unless it is almost gauranteed I get a sail, and I am often out and sail pretty continuously for 1-3 hours and then rush packup to get home to have dinner with family. Wish I had more time. Even doing it this way, I still feel guilty when I prevent the family doing other things so I can have a sail.

Hey Adrian, your family situation is very similar to mine and I get what you are saying! I still feel guilty going for a sail, but my family are happy that I do, because they know it's far worse if I don't get a sail and be a Grumpybum at home with them😀

I hear you fangman... and the same applies to me. If it is a good sailing day and I miss out on sailing I am a bit hard to live with!!

Unfortunately the sport we love plays when it wants to play and not on our schedule. So you have to take it when it is there, and will probably have weeks with nothing when you have all the time in the world.

Adrian, Strategies for ensuring wind when you can actually go sailing include; Going clothes shopping with your wife without being a mood vacuum or spending too much time in the lingerie section;Remembering anniversaries but not by buying a power tool;Do not forget that you are not a food critic unless you make it- then go hard and try for the sympathy vote ( this will not work with your kids)  and finally, Standing on the sidelines at every sporting event your kids are in, this also includes sitting through ballet rehearsals and music lessons and of course every school assembly/concert.

Of course none of these have worked for me, but I thought it would be kinda nice not to be the only one suffering.Laughing

I think we have the same notes!! I take my daughter to ballet one evening a week, and have learned to like clothes shopping including trips to Melbourne just to do that for Anniversary!! Smile
