Totally underpowered grovel to start with. Then Hughie came to the rescue with a rain squall and much better wind to follow. In the end a great sail in the smooth. My 13 y o learner did extremely well and showed great determination.

A good crowd for the marginal conditions to start with.

Coodanup

Woke up before dawn this morning expecting wind, but there wasn't any. After it got light it picked up a little but wasn't in the direction predicted. Text came through from the captain just as I finished my porridge. Wind still didn't look great but headed down to fangys anyway. Found GirlSpeed, Kaizon, Salty and Duffy checking out Wamba street with about ten knots of wind but the tide looked a little low for there so we headed down to St John Street with the captain who arrived about the same time. The wind still didn't look great but I rigged quickly because the forecasts I'd seen said the wind would be gone by eleven. By the time I rigged I could see the first good gusty coming through right out the back, do I rushed out to be first on the water. Bobbed out a couple hundred metres before the squall hit me. When it did I got what proved to be my best run of the day, except for the very last in another squall. Spend the best part of two hours cruising around looking for the best gusts and having a really nice sail. Water wasn't completely flat, but I also wasn't going in to the shallows because I wanted to use a bigger fin, expecting light wind. At eleven it looked like the forecast may have got something right after all as the wind was dying, but I could see rain coming so I hung around up wind hoping for one last gust. It really came through when it did and I got dunked and stuck my head through the biggest panel on my 6.5. With the wind holding, I got up and did the long run back down to the car park, monofilm flapping. Looking at my numbers on the computer when I got home that was my best naughty, and by the time I got to the end of it the flapping bits had all ripped away so there was just a big, ripped hole. Amazed how fast the sail went even though it was ripped. These things happen and it is the nature of the sport just a bit sad to see one of my favourite sails trashed. Lots of people turned up in the end and it was great to see such a good turnout. It's twenty past three in the afternoon now, and the wind is still blowing. It was strange packing up with the wind still there and loads still out. Probably plenty still on the water now. It's better when the forecast gets it so wrong this way around.

Fangy's with heaps of the MMob and Coastal Nanna's.

I behaved myself last night and got to bed at a reasonable hour. All in anticipattion of today's expected blow. When I woke way too early on a Saturday morning, i was primed and ready to go. Except Huey had a sleep in and thoroughly confused things. I wandered down to Fangys and measured a paltry 10 -12 knots. I came home and sent off the myriad of texts to the Perth crew that it was rubbish. A few minutes later I got a text from Captain Calm. He was down there rigging. I thought I would go and join him and play around on the QEII and try some different camera settings. I chucked in all my really big kit and was met by the sight of Huey going hard. Whitecaps all over the shop.I almost felt bad about sending the Perth mob the wrong call. Almost...

'Ken was already out and had the pedal to the metal flying. There was a host of Nanna's popping out of their cardigans and rigging at speed.Stroppoo was wandering around taking the GPSTC trophy for a walk. Grumpynuts was getting out his fin polishing kit in preparedness as Girlspeed was busy making furrows in the shallows that any farmer would have been proud to call his own. Hardlywet showed up as well, a clear sign that the seasons are a changin'. Shanno was doning a bright yellow duck costume. I am not sure whether this was to confuse the bird watchers secreted away in the hides around the place, but it was hilarious to see him sailing around. I cracked up every time I got close to him. Have a gander at the video and you will see why. Watch it in HD on Youtube site so you can see the duck costume clearly.

The wind backed off and then I was only a little overpowered on the QEII Koncept8.5,Delta24 setup for most of the time. It was a bit holey so I wasnt ever Goldilocks  just right for too long, but it was enough to get out on the some sweet water. Overall it was a really pleasant quick little cocktail cruise of a sail on the big kit. I had to cut it short because my youngest snotgobbler's Netball finals were the order of the day. As it turns out, I wont be going to anymore finals this season. Lost by 1.Frown

There was no mirror stuff whilst I was there but as the tide fell this afternoon I noticed some big patches starting to form. Captain Calm was locked into distance mode and was like a metronome up and down. Fin was close behind so I hope those two rack up the Km's. 'Ken smashed out some speed but then decided to smash out a panel and it was game over for him. Basil and the Barbarian both had their fair share of weedy goodness. The Barbarian getting a few runs hooked into the harness. He was well stoked when he came in.I reckon he will be joined by quite a few others.

And so was I. Short and sweet sail but defo a Top ten Fangy Day.

A fun day at fangys,  after stuffing around with things at home, finaly got away and arrived about 10 to find lots

out already. Wind was sort of consistent and went with the old slalom52, the ka kon6.6, and 18cm supaweed50 as it a

bit shalow and the weed was getting thick in some places. Some smooth paches were found, making for a nice sail.

Been a long time between sails so really good to get out today. Started with i101, 7.6m Tushy and 36cm weedy and got 31kts. Wind was up and down and due to my lack of fitness I was finding it a bit hard in the gusts. So - to make things a bit more civilized I chucked on the 6.4 Tushy. this would also enable me to put on my 30cm fin, which would be a little less risky as water levels were pretty low - I need a Delta... Wink

I knew the wind gods would see me changing down and stike back - I wasn't wrong. Went out and straight onto the plane huh??  whoops, no harness. Rushed back to get it then back to water - sure enough, now that I was ready the wind evaporated Frown.  Welll it did come back after a little while and i still had some god runs before the wind dropped again and I packed it in. should have stuck with the 7.6.  No real regrets though, great to be out on the water again with Rat and Noel  Cool

Another fun Fangy day, started off with yesterdays rig, the 6.6 with the 65 and big deltoid.

Changed boards at lunch time to the 53 with 21cm 50deg weedy.

Tried to back up 'ken's NM but kept mistiming the squalls, also tried hrs and alphas, but kept falling into lulls. The best wind was probably while I was having lunch! Managed to line up with one gust to get the 32, the rest of the time it was only a 29 and 28s

Very happy to find out the Fin's shoulder behaved itself and he was able to back up the hour.

as the tide went out a bit and the sun came out, the smooth started to appear, quite a lot there by the time we called it quits.

Xperia ran out of Battery 20mins before I came in, should have turned it off during lunch, on a longer day, will also have to recharge it.

Here's the numbers it did get.

2s 32.559

5x10 29.303

1hr 15.314

alpha 20.463

NM 25.397

distance 127.72

So here the 0.5kt resolution gives me a better 2sec and 5x10
