FMX 118 - Loftsails RacingBlade 7.7 - 36 fin

Lesson not learnt from previous day, fully powered up most of the time with some ugly chop to go with!!

Most must have been recovering from the previosu days as only Bossman joined the fun.

Finally got some Foil Course racing in, this time at Marmong with a dedicated crew - the iQ team noticably abscent.

Rigged conservatively, given the forecasts and offshore winds on arrival, and after the rain passed my 9.0 proved just about right.

  • F4 945cm2, 210 rear and 115+ course race setup. 1mm shim for the gusts downwind proved comfortable.
  • 9.0 Phantom IRIS
  • FMX Hyperion 91
Happy with the gear! Proabably could have gone the bigger tail wing in the lighter runs upwind but probably not so fun downwind. Some big rolling swell but only in the middle of the channel, so cross it once or twice per lap so wasn't so bad.
4 races done, so likely 3rd overall.
New F4 foils are a real treat to ride, especially now that I've got them dialed in.
Good to see a  decent crowd, 14 registered in total.
Guess which side of the course was favoured...
That upwind gybe SW was a bit of fun... shame it didn't payoff in the end (I touched down but had enough momentum to fly off again... but msised the mark and double tacked later so gave back the position I could have gained Frown).
Few mistakes, but minor in the scheme of things:
Dropped one tack badly (not enough wind!) and then had no wind to restart.
Dropped another tack, but caught the mast extension and pulled the sail back up.
Made all my gybes dry and about 3/4 full air. 1 minor breach mid gybe during practice.
Couple of fair tacks but no way can I plane those.
Made the line at the bell twice, was 3 and 5 seconds late otherwise (going below a crowd at the boat end).
Good to see so many out despite the wet weather !
More next week!

Sans Souci, NSW, AU. 19-23kn Southerly. JB135 Hydrofoil, GTR 655/95+/255-2/-1.5. A few holes in the wind but mostly preety solid session. The 7.0m was a bit of a handful in the gusts, trying to tack upwind with Fez and Tim. A couple fo scary moments, breaching and trying to recover. Dieter joined later in the session. Lucas and Oliver cruising nicely closer to the beach. Good chat with everyone including Walt after the session, although it was a bit chilly for late November.
