Richo 72 (6212km): Albany, WA, AU Top day at Albany, the wind came in and water lavel was perfect. Very happy with my PB. MANTA 54 loftsail 6.3 18 Delta
Boz (43852km): Albany Great crew lots out it was on today, took a big crash and our intrepid video man Flex didn't catch it, I'm sure a few people where ammused just timed the bearaway slighlty wrong not settled and still hooked in so harness line got ripped of the boom but apart from thet all good. Great sailing with a huge bunch of people. Mistral 47 KAR 5.2 (All speeds on this sail) KAR 5.7
Pos (13842km): Albany, WA, AU wahoo. Lilacs was the place to be....
Windxtasy (14010km): Albany, WA, AU 47 Mistral, 5m Koncept, 16 delta A huge crew of about 20 locals, Pinnaroos and Mandurah Mobbers in attendance for the hoped for perfect conditions at Lilacs. One kiter asked me if there was a competition going on. The early morning looked promising but the morning wind was up and down like a frog on a pogostick. A few intrepids set out to make the most of it but abouth half waited for the better tide (and hopefully more consistent wind) later in the day. Luckily the cloud cleared and the wind booted in more consistently about lunch time, just as the tide improved. I set out after lunch. First run 33 kn on port tack, tried a few more speed runs on port tack but could only get 32s. Let's try starboard tack - first run 34! Next starboard tack run felt like the fastest but I was on a collision course with Woody on the other tack and I had to straighten up. Drat! That was my fastest and would have been faster if I didn't need to pull up. I kept trying runs on starboard tack and just about every one had a peak of 34. Could not go faster despite the changes I was making. I started to fatigue but I felt confident there was a 30+ kn nm on offer and I would be disgusted with myself if I didn't try for one. The tide was not ideal for the nm and it was half choppy and half weed drag, and I had to keep willing myself to keep hanging on in the strong wind. I didn't have enough in me for another try. I was happy with a 30. Run back to base, a nice gust came along for my speed of the day. Tried a few more but could not improve and my back was hurting so I thought it best to stop. My best 2 sec and 5X speeds since Feb 2020, and my best for Albany, so I am happy that I am refinding some form. Todays speeds and nm were PBs for that board. An interesting note is the Lilacs version of the Hokey Pokey that is required for every waterstart to rid one's limbs and midrif of ropes of tenacious weed! Hopefully I will not be too sore to sail again tomorrow.

Woody-Mark (15409km): Albany, WA, AU An awsome day with top blokes again. Used the 6.6 on the Falcon 56 then tried the 5.8 which was quicker. Stoked to see a couple of 28kt alphas too. Interesting the Falcon was faster than the JP50. Thanks for the drone footage Flex
Flex (18223km): Albany, WA, AU. Wind was all over the shop in the morning. Started with 7.0, got a great run in then was chugging so went 7.8 and over cooked to just planing. Then overcooked so back to 7. Was starting to spin out all the time so figured probably overpowered so went with 5.8. Conditions were excellent all afternoon with many out. Witnessed Boz's spectacular crash but didn't have the GoPro running. Broke the boom inhaul string at the end so called it quits. iSonic 97 with FF22. 7.8 Severne Overdrive, 7.0 KA Race, 5.8 KA Koncept. Edit: Finally got around to editing a video. Initially wasn't planning to take any footage as I'd drowned my 360 camera whilst snorkling and planned to focus on sailing. However, it was fairly strenous sailing for me so took a break every hour or so to take some drone footage and put the goPro various places. The drone can only fly 60km/hr and all sailors and wind were faster than that so any shots were just pot luck. See the description if you want to know why my sail changes colour in the NM run. https://youtu.be/XLAbmggF_ys |
