Albany, fab day about 15 to 22kts, maybe 23kt gusts, ankle way too sore to gybe, but lucky to be on the water with the middle finger pointed at the dr who said no wsurf 4 3 weeks, tried for NM's today and ecstatic to get a 31.9 in those conditions, imagine in 25 to 30ktsSurprised, Down with decrep, dot binny, and steve, about 23 degrees, gald to be away from perth's 44 degree day.

Albany Princess Royal JP54SP 6.3RSREIII 26 pepespeedweed

Fantastic fun on the harbour with Hardie, Binny, Decrepit and Dot plus others . Wind quite gusty, I tried for a few alphas, got 24.85, 24.83, 24.48, all at 60m, bugger. Next time I shall smash my alpha pb (maybe!).

Could have done with a 7.0 for the mile runs, also had miles of 32.15 and 31.22 so was better than I thought.

All in all I had fun and that is my intention!

yeeeharrrgggghhhhhhh, and woooooo hooooooo!!!!!!

Finally managed a NM at Lilacs without a gybe. combination of fairly high tide abd keefs 17cm 50deg broad base weedy. Let me get into the shallows and heavy weed, water dead flat in spots and 1 or 2 cm chop for the rest.

wind not super strong so used the 5.8 on thr 48.

Hardie did very well considering he's stuffed his ankle trying to beat stroppo's alphas.

This is proccessed on Hardies computer using gpsresults, so I assume distance is doppler not familar with this progran at all.

Now we are all going to the local Indian for dinner, what a life!

Edit, just changed results a bit, put the numbers into realspeed, although my 2s was a bit less most of the others are a little bit more.

I think that GPS results was using a different integration, possibly only 2 data points involved.

Just checked NM is my 2nd best ever! can see a pb is more than possible with a bit more wind, Only downside. it's come 11days too late! this would have had No 1 legend, Oh well guess thems the breaks.

That was great fun, GE track show the mile as the long outer runs (right hand side tracks). To my surprise the mile did not start until I was n with the rest of the tracks, my sailing over the sandy area at the lower right side of screen did not assist.

The 3 mile attempts I did were all faster than my previous pb.

With a bit more wind........ that is next time!

Thanks guys, it was indeed great fun!

JJ as Steve's tracks show, we used the whole of the sandbank, possible because of a high enogh tide.

Keef, yes I had several NM attempts, most of them had holes in the wind at some point in the run. The best one gave me my 2ns highest 2s and just kept blowing all the way.

But the figures do show what an excelent run it is, only 2knots under my 2s and 1kt under my 5X10. The angle to win and, water state over whole run, is very close to optimum.

Thanks everyone.

I'm not sure if it was the run that I followed you Mike. I did a few.

Had a great time.

Lucky Chris, came in so I could have my turn and someone offered to look after Kaison. He was having a ball and didn't want to stop. Happy happy happy.Smile

Maybe next time we could get someone to look after him for the whole day.

See you on the water.

Thanks Steve and Mike - great to see that there is plenty of distance (some extra metres on either end) there for a good NM on high tide - magic spot...

Keith, here's my speed graph and tracks.

Lilacs NM

Just checked the data on my GPSarPRO, and it gives me a 5XNM average of 31.11 so it was no flash in the pan.

Here's the GE overlay.

 GE tracks lilacs NM

The ruler is 2.2km so there's plenty of room.

great stuff mike , have you used the short base 18cm yet , mudskipper got a 38+, and wasnt great conditions useing a 6/0 sail and an old fanatic board in good size chop , he said there is more lift and the fin feels more like a slalom fin

going by your tracks it looks like the fin is working to windward ok and looks like you have got the rite foil , Wink

Keef, yep used the small one at Liptons a week or so ago, went well, but I wasn't quite comfortable, so I've thinned it down a bit more, haven't tried it since doing that.

Yep, the broad base performs great up and down wind, I've thickened that one up in the middle to get rid of the flat spot. And I now see what you mean about the slight angle you've boxed it at, I'll straighten that up and see if it makes any difference.

Ran it into a very hard bottom on the run that goes the furtherest south, in the above GE image. It found your hidden stainless!

found the stainless

It was in this condition when I got the NM.

I was also getting a lot of weed under the protruding leading edge. I set it up on a different board and didn't check how it fitted the 48. So there's a bit of room for improvement yet.

mike the  stainless is along the whole leading edge the reason why the stainless is hidden is because i built he fin up with glass roveings from 50deg to 47deg to let you see how the fin performs with less rake, then it was up to you to take it back to the stainless with your own foil , oops im sorry about the flatspotFrown

the stainless has aproximately 30 strands of rovings either side so there isnt a reaction between the carbon and stainless, when you finnaly sand down to the stainless and refoil you shouldnt have to much trouble with the finkeefs fin

pic didnt work ill be back later

Steve - found my tracks from last year - I could have done with going over the sandbar at the start Cry

Decrepit

JJ yep you need to be along the sandbar for the whole NM, but be careful of that southern sand, that's where I ran aground and damaged keith's fin.

Keith, I've taken the fin back to the stainless over the whole length, and bogged up, just sanding and spray puty to go.
