Primbee, NSW, AU || WNW 20-37 kts

PATRIK 48, OD 6.2, MXR UFO 20

Perfect angle for fully loaded downwind NM runs to Windang. There were some lulls, but not many... it was mostly angry. First try of the the Severne OD and wow! The Severnes have no limit - even when the wind was peaking 35+ the 6.2 was sweet as. Couldn't believe it... no top end. Much better than HSM.

That's one of the sweetest PBs I've ever got. Totally stoked to see a jump of 3kts on my previous 30 NM. Yeeww. Awseome afternoon at Primbee.

Nice to have a yarn with Keef and the local speeders. And great to see Berowne and Andrew from the DDs to make a nice team score. Andrew was flying... in the straps and baring away. Well done mate.

STOKED!!

Awesome day down on lake Illawarra. Primbee. Speed board (Naish SP60), TRX 6.3 and Vector Fins Spweedie 23cm.

Great day out with a lot of familiar faces (those not up the north coast competing in GPS races).

Good to see Andrew improve from 3 kts on a 3.0 to 30+ knots on a 5.0 in just a few months!

40kts for Det, congrats, top effort.

100km for Ken, well done mate.

And everyone else for surviving some of the squals!!!

I did a few really fast gybes, but unfortunatley the closing distance must have been wider than 50m :(

Stoked to get a decent westerly this late in the season and on a personal note just one thing to say: FOOTSTRAPS!

Nigel, you were trail-blazing the joint today, so great to watch Cool, awesome PB.

Berowne, nice to meet you again, good to have you back home in OZ. 2 great PBs today and can't wait to see you crack 40kts!

Great to see some of the Illawarra crew including Phil, and also Gustbuster Keith.

GPS event 2 - Brutal westerly:

Race 1 - Exocet RS4 - Venom 7.7 - 39-37

Race 2 - Exocet RS4 - Venom 7.0 - 37

Should have used kit2 for race 1 and vice versa, way overpowered on first race and underdone on race 2.

RS3/ KARace 7.1/ Sonntag 35

Very challenging for me, was overepowered in the windy section of the lake and ended up swimming half of the times I tried to jibe. Also had a scary catapult. But it's all part of the fun, doing almost 30 knots accross the wind in the chop can be very exciting Smile. It was great being part of the GPSTC free race event, the location is awesome and the company too.

Well done Stuart. Looking fast out there yesterday, mate. Must feel good to ride your own boards and know they go so great.

What a day. Still stoked. Those NM runs were scary... it's a long time to be holding that speed, on the edge of control. One lapse in concentration would've been disasterous! Heaps of adernaline... good fun :)

Go Demerits

Yes super NM Nigel, must have felt GOOD ! Berowne's  alpha was over 24 knts and only about 4m wide .

And Andrew now that you are in the footstraps a new era is starting for you .

Stuart good to see you there too and do a good mile, say hello to your lovely girl Smile

I'm still learning to gybe the speed board. Half the time I stuff up by putting my back foot too far over the rail and drag my foot in the water, or switch feet and put my front foot too far forward, and stall the board. But when you nail one and come out in the straps, damn the re-acceleration is addictive!! George helped with the gybe analysis... There was a jibe at 12.962 knts that is not registered by ka72 Radius 53m: 13.45 Radius 55m: 24.352 --] so you were less than 5m wide for this one (and more than 3) Radius 60m: 24.432 --] the same jibe registers faster because with wider gate it can select more of the entry track which is faster Radius 75 m: 24.598, 23.055 radius 100m: 24.8; 23.4; 23.2; 21.8 So 4 gybes above 20kts, just too broad to count for the alpha, but DAMN they felt good! Thanks George.

Hey Berowne. For the first few gybes in a session, I often have the same issue with foot placement on the rail coming into the gybe. I automatically go to put it a lot wider than the board is and my foot will be swept away :P I find the speed board needs a much smoother and wider arch than a slalom board. I have trouble adjusting my radius mid turn on the speed board, so I will very gently nurse it through a nice smooth arch, keeping mast foot pressure applied to prevent bouncing around. I concentrate on getting that arch smooth and when it all comes together on the exit, just point a bit higher to make up lost ground with the wider-than-usual turn. I must say, I much prefer to gybe a slalom board than the speed board... the slalom board feels much more comfortable hard on a rail in really tight turns. Just lovely :)

Hey Berowne. I just had a look through our KA72 tracks to see what we might be doing differently. It looks like my top 5 bearaways (all on starboard tack) are 5-10 degrees deeper than your top 5 in the same conditions. Don't know if it's the answer but might be something worth trying !!?
