It'd been a while since the 6.3 got used, but felt great.

Best speed in the rough.

Great session team....😎👍 Had a surf in board shorts on the Sunny coast today, but still missed Kyeemagh 🙄 That Vmax 33 looks popular. Can't wait to get one...

Nigel and Dean, how did you find the choice of fin length for the combo, was it spot on?

Andrew, I found the 33 too big yesterday. The 6.2 was fine, but my board had way too much lift. I switched to a 5.7 and was a bit under powered, but I got the control back. The manta 61 fin range is stated to be 29-34. I think a 31 should give me a lot more control in those conditions. It was extremely choppy in the middle - moreso than usual. You should look up the recommended sizes for your iSonic. All boards are different, so what works for me might not for you. Unfortunately, it's realy a matter of experimentation, and the fins that come with boards are generally pretty crap so you can't rely on those either.

Thanks Nigel. Valuable feedback. Just about to invest in a few brands across the 31-36 range and very much looking forward to the experiment of fins for Botany. Cheers mate 😎👍

Hi Andrew,

The 33cm fin is the right one for the Patrick (59.5cm wide) with the 6.2m.  I was struggling a bit as I'm a bit out of practice and also had taken a chunk out of the 33cm last time I used it in Georges river and forgot to repair it.  All fixed now as I was pissed that it stuffed a session a bit for me.  I think the VMax's are the best value for money carbon fin.  Make sure that if you start to tail walk that you come in and change down your fin as the stacks from tailwalking are pretty average.  Lately I have been upgrading my fin collection for different spots and having a good range as opposed to updating sails, boards, etc.

Cheers Dean. Thanks to this thread I think I've learnt as much as possible without actually getting into the water this week at all 👍

Andrew also I would probably just choose one brand that suits your budget and go with that.  if you mix and match brands you may find that a 35cm fin in one brand has as much lift as a 33cm in another so now you have two fins that pretty much do the same thing.   I like the 50 degreeBlack project weed speeds for shallow water (you want G10) when scrapping the bottom and I also have a Chris lockwood and Gun weedy for areas that weedy and deep.
