Coodanup, WA

Chook pond mission with Lunny, Decrepit and Pas. Once in there I thought it would be a waste of time as it was barely knee deep and heaps of stringy weed - super hard to get going with the 45 degree fin, only did about 5 runs.

Still, managed to hook a good 28 knot gust and ploughed right through the weed for a 42.65 knot display - I think the weed made it ultra peaky Frown.

Saw Craig smash his PB and Mike doing some super quick runs Cool

Back out in the Coodanup bay went for a NM. The start of the run was great at over 39 knots but then crashed into a weed berg (I think) at 36 knots exploding my carbon mast extension and shredding the mast sleeve of the sail. Thanks Craig for standing by while I got my stuff together and cleared my head.

A top ten day at Fangy's - good to catch up briefly with the man himself Smile

Geez couldnt believe it when i saw that 2 sec peak. First time sailing down that way, super flat in the chook pond and a bit of a mission to get into, its either drag your gear through the scrub and risk being attacked by swamp rats or take the lovely channel of bog, then once in all you need is a pair oversized testicles and a shot of testosterone to brave the shallow water and abundance of green snotty alien hair. I found the shallow  water and weed a little intimidating for a while. Really thought a catapult was going to happen.

Great to meet a few of the local sailers. Decrepit deserves a bow of respect. I reckon he's really a teenager disguised in a slightly mature mans body, man he fliesWink

Finished off with a run out of the chook pond and there he was, a familiar face with an arm in the air. Oh dear a broken extension and torn sailSurprised. Damn JJ that could have been worse, I'm going to be wise and get a helmet i think.

Good day out.

nice sesh at the local

lots of people great to catch up with everyone

pretty fresh wind wise but very low water over the bar with plenty of weed

tried the slalom board with a 30 weedy first but it was grabbing a bit too much weed

so swapped to the speed board with the 24 weedy and after a few test runs had the confidence to have a go through the weed bergs in the flat

worked a treat so long as i was going fast enough didn't notice the weed even when i hit the thick stuff a few times

pretty happy even though it was a short sesh

Short fun session, at a gnarly Safety Bay, with several  other windsurfers and a few kites. Took it easy today after the winter layoff. Maiden voyage for a new Mistral 110 - well, not really it’s actually about 20 years old. A bit flighty in today’s conditions but it should be good with a bigger sail and steady seabreeze…

Got back in time for a late session at Wallyworld hoping for the swing.

Sat out the first stupid squall and then chased gusts from all different directions.

Wind disappeared and got cold so called it. Looked like it swung just as I left!

Great job JJ and Lunny on the PBs in the chookpond and nice return speed Geoff!

Wowee! Super speed JJ!

I knew you could do something really special there today. Congratulations!

Must be your slowest nm for a while...

Whoo Hoo Lunny! Cracking the 37 is always a milestone. You will be nudging the 40 soon. Now you know why we are always in search of flat  water... although it does have it's risks. Congratulations!

Glad JJ had some backup.

I would have joined you if I'd had some confirmation that you were going...

Pinnaroos on the board for October! Yay!

nice one guys! The chook pond delivers again! Spewing about the carnage JJ. This snot weed seems to be getting worse each year. The stuff at Melville was abrasive. I was sailing through it with my asy thinking it was awesome not to be catching any, but when I got back in it had taken a heap of nicks out of the LE all the way up. Mad... SB could have been alltime if the change came through before sunset. It booted as I was driving away... doh!

Slowy, that's why I experimented with stainless steel leading edges.

Seems most of our weed is really abrasive, unlike Lake George that just seems to polish fins.

The stainless I used was too thin, didn't go far enough into the fin body.

Thanks Chris - came out of it ok, a bit dazed maybe. Glad I had a helmet on.

Frustrating dealing with the weed in the chook pond but the five or so silky runs made it all worthwhile. Wished the runs were longer though.

Just checked the fin, the edge is quite serrated but otherwise it's suprisingly intact - the ground is pretty soft in there.

Chose Coodanup as I didn't think the wind would veer south enough for SB till late - bummer that's what happened and you just missed it. You had a nice afternoon's sailing cranking out 40s at both SB and Melville!

Can't wait for SB to turn it on, just a smidge less than last year when it went mad (and you smashed a 46?) would be nice!

JJ, Congrats on the very impressive 2sec PB and glad to hear you didn't do too much damage to the body.  Gear you can replace, but bodies aren't so easy finding spare parts for.   Probably hit one of Fangy's strategically placed nanna chairs only he has the co-ords for.

Well done on the PB too Lunny.

Snags when are you going to get the hang of chairs mate? They really are just for sitting on....trust me on thisLaughing  Having said that my front yard is looking a lot better now I dont have those burnt out Commodore wrecks taking up space. I had tried sticking Chev badges on them thinking that would make them more appealing to the local oxygen intolerant lifeforms, but as it turned out my application for an artificial reef construction and estuary habitat came through. Win win.
