6.6 loft no cam, Tabou 135, 23 delta fin.

Fangland for the afternoon. Cool

Had 32 on the dial for the 135 big board, but evened out to 30.2 through real speed.

Tired arms Laughing

Melville Beach, WA

Another NM mission after yesterday's debacle, managed to get a 30.4 from Melville (quick start but lost the wind in the middle).

I hadn't sailed from Peli Point before in a seabreeze and Trouty had told me it was good for naughties - sure is, got the 31.7 down there in a nice solid 25 knot breeze.

Fun sail down and back. Like Leighton out in the middle Cool

Good crew out, saw Mark and Shane do ripper runs and Slowy was killing it as usual.

M91,  KA6.2,  CL SL1 27 (super awesome fin)

Coodanup, Koncept 6.6, Delta 21 slalom, Mistral 112 at first and the the CA speed (Kermit) Top speed on Kermit but was too tired by then to do more than one run, got a 34.6 on the Mistral a bit earlier. Wind picked up enough to make me think it worth trying the smaller board. Couldnt get the fin all the way into the box but running into the bottom a few times fixed that. Had to use a hammer to get it out ! Might need to do some work on that. Alpha is a surprise - didnt think I had done any of them. Top 9 fangy day. Lots of the usual locals plus the blowin Pinnas, and a few extras. Both Tobys amd Terry.

Mission was a 30 knot NM so can say thats done Smile, probably would have been easier if I had not been so tired from yesterday.

Got of the water about 5 and no missed work phone calls, always a pleasure.

Coodanup M91 K5.7, 21 Delta

I made the mistake of being overconfident after my recent alpha PB of thinking that maybe I could gybe in stronger wind, so I put on the 91 for stability and went for it, only to discover that the board turns beautifully but my technique is nowhere near good enough to manage the sail at those speeds. I did complete one, and had a couple where I gathered the sail but stepped off the board and back on again. They were all too wide. So disappointment. I knew from the start that with the wind on offer I really should have whacked on the speed board and gone for speed and naughties, but...

That will be a second best naughty for me, and the fastest I have done on a big board. Should have changed to the speed board, but after all the high kicks dancing "Nutbush City Limits" last night the thigh muscles only had enough energy for one nm.

The day was redeemed by a good Pinnaroos turn out - I did recommend Coodanup as the place to be - and those who didn't join us will wish they had because the steadily building wind (which must have been 22-23 knots when I left) was just what we wanted. There will be some amazing numbers posted tonight.

Shaw, it was great to see you flying, even though you were overboarded. Congrats on all those PBs. Did you put the mast track forward a bit?

Jeff, super naughty there, exceeding expectations and then some!

Good to see Ricey and Mineral and all the other GPSTCers also.

Back to lightwind days for practicing gybes. A lot more work required.

YES, managed a 30+kn NM, which was my aim.

Really stoked

Not sure how I can have 30.7kn NM and yet only 28.1 5x10 second average. Does anyone know?

More later

Great finish to the month with a blat around the Swan from Melville with Geoff and JJ and later Chris.

Bar was super shallow with some nice runs off the wind. Went searching for naughties out in the middle and up to Wallyworld but couldn't find any and lost track of speedy when he went on his mission. Have to be impressed with how well the 91 handles insane chop.

First time using this sail fin combo and quite impressed. Perhaps a bit small.

Well done team on a great day out!

Peli point after work. Got there to see Steve and Claude derigging 6.2s (overdone!) so wasn't confident with my smallest (6.3), but wind backed off about 3/4 of the way through rigging by about 5 knots. Bugger. Missed it by about 20 minutes. Just went for a bump and jump instead, and must have nailed like 30 or 40 huge floaters and about 5 or 10 accidental forwards ending in big wipeouts/body slams. Man, what a beating. Did one run back from majestics but it had min speed of 26 due to the holes. Super surprised to see 30 there, it was so underdone. Some super lumpy chunks made for an epic fun ride when powered up though Tongue out
Loving all the Pbs guys - smashed coodanup! Cool Well Done All!!

Some more:-

Tried out a new (for me) speed board today. Had difficulty in getting up wind on 15cm delta with 5.8 Koncept, so will have to think more about that. The board (66l Fanatic Falcon) has slight tail rocker that requires delta fins filled slightly to get a snug fit and not catch the weed. It felt good downwind.

Swapped to my old Xfire 80 board with 19cm delta and got upwind better. Got downwind better too: that was the board I got the 30+NM. But the wind had picked up a bit and looking at the tracks I got good distance, whereas the two fastest runs on the speed board were barely long enough.

Had a drag with Terry A. He slowly overtook me but not much in it. Then I asked what his NM was: it was 36+. The big difference was the he had started further up, got a good gust and flat water that I had not ventured into.

All good learning. Definately a top day.Smile

Great to see Anita, Shaw and Jeff.

Great work with PB's guys Cool was a good day down there. Smile

Firie, I had to head out, arms were tin fruited, and had to get home. Left it a bit late to head off.

Two bloody traffic snarls on the way. First one was on South end, three cop cars had a bloke in the paddy wagon, and yep, idiots all rubber necking. Second one was as per normal, the north end, a flaming car park. Two bloody hours Frown took the shine off the trip a bit.

Might have to re think stratergy for trips that way with the congestion on the roads.

Well done on all the PB's, Glad that 6.5 wasnt too big Shaw - just shows if you can hold on more is better !

Mike, the trick is to stay until 5, then by the time you hit the North end the traffic has cleared. Funny thing was my best speeds were all on the last run, so I might as well have saved all the effort and just gone out on the small board at 4:30 (just joking).

And Fangy, Im glad I didnt take up your offer to pre-scratch the fin, its was so much more fun to run aground on the first jybe and take some skin off as well as scratch the fin. One big positive was no crab nips, negative was I stood on something stingy on the grass while changing boards, thought it might have been a bee but I think it must have been something else as it faded pretty quickly. All part of the fangland experience.

Yes Sammy, bad choices on my part. Kicking myself for it now, what could have been... although the 91 handles very well, I didn't feel overboarded in terms of handling - its just the smaller board would have been faster and I would have been able to really go for it. I really wasn't up to nms after all that dancing and only 2 hours sleep the night before (I should have stayed home but I had to sail after missing out on Sunday), and with the forecast being very average I didn't even put my small speed board in the car. The 41 would have been plenty in the end. I was overdone with the sail also, I had to really pull on the outhaul just to be able to bear away to start the run. For a while there I was thinking "How am I going to get back?". Float?

Can you imagine a bee lining up Fairybell's toe? Do reckon the bee was promised 72 virgins in heaven if matyred for the cause? (And once again arriving to find the virgins are all pandas.) Do you reckon the bees think 'yep Fairybell's toe is sooo worth it!'? I reckon maybe the bees are smarter than we think. 😄
